Talk to me about your solids schedule

Once you started, what was your schedule like as far as introducing fruits, veggies, etc.? And when did you start feeding more than once a day?

Right now DD (5 months) has 2 tablespoons of oatmeal about an hour after her first morning feeding. She LOVES it! My pediatrician had suggested feeding her in the morning bc this way if any allergies develop, it wouldn't be overnight. But to be honest, I'd rather feed her in the evening bc that is when she seems to be the hungriest, especially bc my milk supply is at its lowest at that point.

I'm interested in knowing what others are doing.

Re: Talk to me about your solids schedule

at 5m we started cereal so shes been eating that for a month. we did one week rice in the morning only. next week oatmeal in the morning for a few days, and once we knew she liked them both we added one in the morning and one in the evening. last week at 6m we started real foods.
right now:

she wakes up bf/bottle.
then about 2hrs later i do a bowl of oatmeal/rice cereal with whatever food we are up to (have only done sweet potato so far, starting bananas today). she usually finishes 3/4 to all of the bowl.
either immediately after or within an hour bf/bottle.
three hours later bf/bottle.
2-3 hours later i do another bowl of oatmeal/rice cereal (whichever one she didn't have earlier) with the previous weeks food (today we will do sweet potatoes in the afternoon).
either immediately after or within an hour bf/bottle.
three hours later bf/bottle.
before bed bf/bottle.

so far so good. my ped said to try to bump to three meals a day of food. i will prob do that when we have successfully at least three foods. we give 4 full days of a new food before moving to the next food. she looooooooved the sweet potatoes so far. we'll see about the bananas in an hour or so!

good luck!! its so much fun!

Thanks for sharing!

I had started the rice cereal a few weeks ago at 4.5 months bc she was totally showing a LOT of interest in DH and I when we were eating. (lips smacking, trying to grab things out of our hands, watching every little move we made.......) She really liked it but then she came down with a bad cold a few days later. My ped told me to hold off until she was better before starting up again. I decided to start it back up with oatmeal bc I felt like the rice may have been backing her up a bit and giving her a belly ache. So far we are on day 3 of the oatmeal and I have never seen such an enthusiastic new eater Chat Icon . She gobbles every spoonful down and makes "mmm" noises.Chat Icon . I was only giving her enought to mix with 1 oz of breastmilk but today she started screaming at me when she finished so I gave her another 1oz serving. I think it equals out to about 3 tablespoons.

I'm going to ask the doctor if I can maybe give her another serving in the evening bc she definitely seems to be hungry at that time too. She watches DH and I eat dinner and we feel so bad bc she seems like she wants to eat too.

Re: Talk to me about your solids schedule

DS will be 5 months tomorrow and when he wakes up at 7'ish i give him fruit then he takes a bottle usually somewhere between 8 and 10. has bottles through out the day and then i will give him veggies somewhere around 6-7 (depending on his bottle schedule that day) i like to give it to him between his afternoon and last bottle.

sometimes i mix it with oatmeal sometime i just do it straight.

for the poster who mentioned their 5 month LO gets up at 3am for a feeding....have you tried upping the oz in the day bottles? or maybe up the last bottle up an ounce so he/she stays sleeping? that might help since you said you're only giving about 2oz at 3 am
