Talk to me about tubes in ears
We are meeting with an ENT in 2 weeks. ds is 16 months and has had multiple ear infections and chronic fluid in his ears. Ped suggested seeing an ENT for possible tubes.
1. What made your final decision to get the tubes? What was the criteria?
2. Did they help?
3.was your dc a bad sleeper before tubes? Did you see an improvement? Ds goes through periods where he wakes up a lot. I've slept with him multiple times and he is so restless and seems so uncomfortable.

Re: Talk to me about tubes in ears
my ds was a terrible sleeper before and after tubes, but I think its because he was always in pain.
DS suffered for 2 years with cronic ear infections before someone sent us to an ent and it was the best thing we ever did. I would do it again in a second. DS got tubes at 2 and one fell out around 3 and now at 3 years 3 months he is losing the other and the ent fells it will fall out soon. He gets checked every 3 months and is ear infection free (knock on wood). It was so bad and the ears tubes increased his speech immediately. luckily he lost none of his hearing before someone finally mentioned tubes
any questions please feel free to pm me

Talk to me about tubes in ears
Tubes were best decision we made! Our DS was 11 months when he had them put in. Saw huge improvement in hearing immediately. Words started coming rapid fire at that point.
He hasn't had a single ear infection since....he's now 21 months.
I wouldn't say he became a better sleeper overnight, but I did feel less guilty about sleep training knowing he wasn't in pain anymore. We are still working in sleeping through the night?

Best thing we ever did! Stopped the infections and the antibiotic cycle for over a year...she's had 2 infections since they came out and those were last late fall...can't comment on sleep because we are blessed with that

Talk to me about tubes in ears
1. Because they are awesome! I had them as a child several times and I knew they'd help her. Chronic infections.
2. Best thing ever! Only one single infection in 4 years and even it's not an oral antibiotic but local drops. Less likely if her building a tolerance.
3. Sleep unaffected before and after

Re: Talk to me about tubes in ears
DS got tubes in his ears in May. It was right after his first birthday.
1. What made your final decision to get the tubes? What was the criteria?
He had 10 ear infections from December to April. He also had chronic fluid in his right ear. When we took him to the ENT she said that everything he heard sounded like it was underwater based off of testing they did. He also didn't have any words except DADA so they felt that the infections/fluid were starting to cause a speech delay.
2. Did they help? YES! He had some issues in the beginning again with his right ear because it was so bad but now he is doing really well. Within two weeks he started using more words and it seemed to help his balance as well because he started walking. They tested him again and now his hearing is perfect.
3.was your dc a bad sleeper before tubes? He wasn't a bad sleeper before the tubes.

Re: Talk to me about tubes in ears
nope, he fights sleep so bad, so I think his sleep had no correlation to his tubes

Re: Talk to me about tubes in ears
My DD had tubes put in and we were very happy with the decision. Like others she had chronic ear infections. I think its important that you find the right Dr. The original Dr. we consulted with was on Sunrise Hwy in Lindenhurst and right away said let's schedule surgery which I wasn't comfortable with. We went to Dr. Mendelson in Garden City and were much happier. He followed her for some time. I wanted to be 100% before we jumped to surgery. I trusted him and developed a relationship and that made the surgery much easier.

Talk to me about tubes in ears
DS had chronic ear infections - I want to say 6 within 3 months. He was taking so many antibiotics. We got them in both ears and hasn't had one since!! He got them at 10 1/2 months. He was a good sleeper at night, but I noticed more talking and he seemed more content.
