Talk to me about TEETHING!

Loey's got two little bottom teeth coming in. One has already broken through the gums and it looks like the other one is starting to.

What can we give him? We've been doing Baby Motrin & Baby Tylenol. DH said the box said we can't do that for more than 10 days.

How long will this last? I know obviously as long as he has teeth coming in, but how long does this really painful part last? Sometimes he is just inconsolable and it breaks my heart!

We were going to start Ferberizing to get him into the crib, but now he's teething so we obviously aren't going to do that. How do we know when he's "done?"

Also, what do you put into those mesh teether things? Can I have some ideas that might help him with the pain?

We've been giving him frozen wet rags, Nuby teether, baby Einstein doggie teether.... what else?

Help this mommy!

My DS is teething BIG time right now. I really can't answer most of your questions... but I can feel your pain. He's been crying soo much, even when I'm holding him now. Today WAS supposed to be a beach day, but how cranky he is I just couldn't deal with it. Right now I've just been giving him cold cloths to chew on...he looves them. I also give his bottles to him chilled some... he tends to enjoy them more now too. I try to keep him distracted as much as possible. No tooth is coming through yet, but I can now feel a little bump, so it's on it's way LOL. He's def not his happy lil self and it's soo hard. I got nothing done all day today or yesterday. I hope this clears up soon.

The tylenol and motrin say that b/c if you have pain or a fever for a long time you should see a doctor..but since you know he is teething I would keep giving it.

Also I have read on here that if you keep his head elevated when he is sleeping it will help too.

There's no answer as to how long it lasts....

DD has 8 teeth coming in right now.

4 molars that have been coming in for the past 6 weeks but still have not cut through the gums.

two teeth on the top and two on the bottom too. Only 2 have broken through the gums.

I believe once the tooth has broken through the gum the painful part is over. (although, I'm not a baby, so I can't say for sure), but that's what my ped said, as well as what I've read about teething.

For the mesh feeders, I used to put frozen fruit inside, or even an ice cube.

If he takes a binky, what I also used to do was fill a binky nipple with water and freeze it, this way while she sucked on the binky, it helped with her teething pain.

I no longer do the above, because she is not a sucker... she does not put anything other than her sippy cup or food in her mouth.

I agree, I give the meds as long as DS is in obvious pain.

For Tyler, the pain subsided once the teeth broke through. The days before were the worst.

Since his two teeth have been in he hasn't shown any sign of discomfort. He does drool a ton and bite down on everything in sight, but with the actual teeth coming in I could see that he was in pain.

I feel so bad for my little guy and of course I had to go back to work summer school right in the middle of teething!

One tooth did break through the gums, but from what I can see, another is coming. My poor little guy!

DS's 1st tooth popped through yesterday and looks like the other one is gonna come tomorrow. Teething toys dont really work for him and the frozen ones are too cold. Ok try this:

Hylands teething tablets, (worked the best for us and its a good inbetween medicine so youre not constantly giving tylenol)

Frozen or Cold west washcloth (it was too cold for him to hold so we used the mesh feeder)

Frozen grapes in the mesh feeder (I peeled them so they had more flavor than just the skin and froze them. 3 fit in the mesh thing and he LOVED it! Practically ate it with his little gums!)

I hated giving him tylenol all the time too. Lately, I've been giving him the tablets once or twice a day. Tylenol if he cant sleep through the pain. I think I've only given him tylenol like 4 times in a week .
