Would you find it tacky to receive a thank you card attached to you child's favor at a birthday party? My DS has a bunch of classmates attending his party and I do not know their addresses (invites were a PIA) so I thought of attaching the thank you note to their favors. I

I wouldn't. Can you send them into school?

No it's not tacky. Considering most people don't even bother to send thank you cards anymore ( sorry but that I find tacky!) I say its better then nothing!

We went to a classmate birthday party recently and the mom passed around a pen and paper while the kids ate and asked for addresses so she could mail out TY cards.

I think it's tacky. I would make the effort to either mail them or send them to school.

Re: Tacky or not?

For a classmates party it's not tacky, it's actually becoming the norm you are thanking them for coming to the party and I sure giving a gift. It's pretty close to impossible to send thank yous to classmates I would not be allowed to send them in for the teacher to give out, so that would be my only choice. I say better that than nothing at all

Tacky or not?

Not entirely, but I would make the effort to at least bring them into school so they can be personalized with name and specific gift, etc.

A thank you is a thank you. Honestly, I think most people just take a quick glance and in the garbage it goes, I don't spend time scrutinizing the thank you and what's written. I think it's fine to attach it to the favor, I wouldn't think twice if I got a thank you like that from someone.

I don't think so.
Another idea is to have a tag made up with a little thank poem and your son can sign his name to them before they are attached.

Re: Tacky or not?

As someone who takes the time to write out each thank you and acknowledge what's given, I feel it's very poor etiquette not to. I don't really have the extra time to write them out but I feel if you have the time to arrange the party, send out invites, then you have the time to write thank you cards.

I've gotten them attached to favors and I don't like it personally. I also dislike the generic typed ones I've received a few times now. I'm was raised to follow etiquette though and I'm seeing that it's a fading art.

Re: Tacky or not?

That's exactly what I plan on doing this year. To be honest, I don't care if someone thinks it's tacky. I'm giving your DC a favor with an attached thank you card. It's still better then no thank you card at all.

Re: Tacky or not?

Considering its rare to get an actual thank you card from a kids birthday party now I think any kind of thank you is great!

Re: Tacky or not?

Not tacky.
Only thing is I'd probably completely forget I got the TY that way & then later on assume they never bothered to send one. Not that I'd care but in my mind it would probably be like I never got one.. does that make sense?

I don't think it's tacky, but I wouldn't. I would just put a note in their individual cubbies at school.

I agree.

I always do a pre thank you card along with a party favor. We thank them for coming, we thank them in person for their gift and thank them with a favor thanking them for coming and celebrating with us. We don't mail out thank yous again.

I agree with this. This is what one of the moms did for a party Lara just attended for one of her little classmates, stuck thank yous in the cubby.

Yeah I have to agree.

I'm the type that likes to give a little personal touch -- like: Thank you so much for the toy tractor - Julian loves it!

And you can't really do that with this method because you won't know what they will give yet. So, for that reason, I would prob send them to school.

It's fine. A good idea, actually.

I hate using school as a mail room at this point (preK... and technically it's difficult, as I don't take my kid to school, he gets there by bus).

I usually host small parties & personally thank people for coming (both in person & by phone at the end & after).

I'm so done with favors & thank you cards.

It's not a wedding.

Re: Tacky or not?

not tacky but I also hate thank you cards. they are such a waste of paper and time. they get thrown out if not right away eventually (unless its a photo one I tend to keep them)I have already thanked you for coming to the party when you arrived, thanked you again for the gift and then probably thanked you again when you left ... at of all those thank yous a person really needs me to mail them another thank you to say the same thing again!!! and how people find it rude to not get a thank you for kid party is beyond me.

the only exception I make is if someone sent a gift and didn't make it to the party. I then will send a thank you out.

for DD 4th bday I attached a label inside the pizza box favor that had some pizza type poem thing thanking them for coming to the party.

Re: Tacky or not?

It's not tacky, it's just not as thoughtful as a personalized note... may matter to you, may not...?
