Switching from Cablevision to Fios
If you have a Cablevision phone # can you keep your number when you switch to FIOS?
I was told, when FIOS first came to my area, that you couldnt keep your phone # if you had a Cablevision #...(656 prefix in my area) With the portability laws in place I didnt understand how this was possible.
Did anyone have a "Cablevision Phone Number" and switch to FIOS...were you able to keep your number?

I kept my phone number when I switched. We had to pay a fee I believe though to switch it.
As I recall, I think we called them to make sure we could do it since we were having issues getting it to say we could keep our number when we tried to sign up online.
ETA - The hardest transition we had was when we moved in the same town and Cablevision was going to let us refuse to keep our number (we moved 2 miles) and assigned us a new one. We fought it and got to keep it eventually but, it was a big PIA.

We switched form Cable to Fios and kept our number ( 631 area code though)

You would really have to call and check to see if you can port that number to verizon...they will be able to tell you pretty quickly.

Same here. But, if you switch back from Fios to Cable then they will make you change your phone number or pay a fee to keep the same number.
