Re: Sweatpants for school?

DS1 loves being comfortable. He wears athletic pants almost every day to school. He also has a few fleece sweatpants on days where it's really cold. On the weekends, I try to get him to wear jeans, cargo pants, cords, etc.

Are you meaning real sweatpants or like athletic pants? My DS wears athletic pants, but not sweatpants, mainly bc I don't think he owns any bc I hate how they look. But DS is very preppy, the kid loves to wear jeans and polos, usually bc he's trying to impress some girl lol. If he felt more comfortable in sweatpants, I'd go get him some to wear, since I think it's more important to be comfy and learn.

This is what I'm curious about. Do you mean athletic pants or actual thick sweatpants? In my school, the boys all wear athletic pants but NOBODY wears actual sweats. So, no, I wouldn't send him in sweats. But he wears athletic pants 3 out of 5 days.

I'm not sure I understand the difference. I'm talking about actual sweatpants. I get solid color ones (usually black, navy, and grey) so they can pair with any shirt. I usually buy them at Target and Old Navy.

Re: Sweatpants for school?

I think sweatpants are totally fine for school. Just because they are sweatpants doesn't mean they are necessarily sloppy looking. I think comfort is very important. I like them better than jeans.

My DD lives in yoga pants and leggings which aren't far off from sweatpants so to answer your question..............I see no problem with it and kids should wear whatever they feel most comfortable in. It's just school, not a formal fashion event.

Yes. If they are clean, neat, comfortable, happy and learning who cares.

My son wears the thick sweatpants but they are not fitted on the bottom. He wears sports brands and his sports team ones.

I think she means the heavy ones vs. the ones that are "shiny" or "slippery". Both are fine to me and have seen kids wearing both kinds all the time.

Actual sweatpants are the ones that have elastic on the waist and the ankle, but athletic ones are like wide legs. Usually my DS wears the shiny looking ones from Nike adidas etc, but my DD wears them from gap, old navy, justice etc and they are more sweat pant material, but not your typical elastic ankle.

I'm learning so much! Lol. My kids don't wear the ones with elastic ankles. I can't stand them so I don't buy them for them.

Re: Sweatpants for school?

I don't wear sweatpants out of the house so neither does my DC. Just my preference. I don't judge those who do, but it's not for us. Sweatpants are for home on the weekends or sick days.

Sweatpants for school?

My DD wears yoga pants, leggings, fleece wide leg pants and occasionally she will wear jeans (she hates wearing them to school bc sometimes she still has trouble with the buttons).
I guess not necessarily sweat pants but same concept. I don't see an issue.

I'm not a fan of sweatpants. My girls don't have any sweatpants they wear jeans or leggings. However I see nothing wrong with wearing sweatpants to school. All that matters is that it cleans and fits.

To me leggings are the equivalent to sweat, they can be very casual.

On gym days my kids wear sweats or leggings (DD). My son is in 1st grade and not only do most boys wear sweats/joggers/athletic pants they also wear shorts with long socks (nike elites). Its the trend.

Kids wear shorts and sweatpants all the time. I fight with my son about clothes daily so I notice what other kids wear.

Do you have girls though and do they wear leggings?

I feel like at school all the girls are comfortable in leggings and if sweats weren't acceptable that would really stink for all the boys.

I'm curious as to why someone would think they would not be ok.

My husband feels they are too casual for school. He thinks it's important for kids to know that they should dress nicely for school and sweatpants are not nice enough. My thought is that, as long as they don't look sloppy, their comfort is more important for learning.

And I agree that kids should look clean and nice so I agree with your DH to a point. But sweatpants with a shirt that matches can look put together for a kid. IMO ripped up jeans etc can look worse than sweatpants. So it's all about the total package than sweatpants.

Re: Sweatpants for school?

my kids wear sweats all the time. I wore sweats all the time growing up.

I don't see what the issue is?

Why would elementary school kids "dress up" for school???
