did you note the JMHO? Chat Icon i was expressing MY opinion on the situation

I did, not to worry. However, I found it redundant, as I assumed you were expressing your own thoughts and opinions.
I still took offense to what you wrote.

dont take offense. i simply stated that i will parent one way, you stated you parent a different way. i didnt take offense to your parenting methods. i expressed mine as you expressed yours and i never said you were wrong.

and FTR - i did NOT say this "So what you're saying is that I'm a bad parent because I don't do exactly what your mother did while raising you?" you put words in my mouth.

it was not my intention to start an argument. i simply expressed my opinion on how my feelings differ. i never singled anyone out or said anyone was wrong. Chat Icon

It was the entire thread that annoyed me, actually. When people attack the Suri's parents for allowing her to wear shoes, I take it personally, because I allow my own daughter to wear those same shoes....and I never thought I would, until she arrived and was the girliest of the girly girls ever! She loves those shoes and I love making her happy.
Then you quoted what I said in your response, and I took that as a direct attack on my parenting. That's all.

I just want to say...

NO matter which side you are on, I dont think it makes anyone a bad parent. one would rather have their child cry than wear heels outside or the other would have their child walk in heels.

I doubt CPS will be coming after either of these parents.Chat Icon

I'm sorry, I know that I don't have kids yet so that automatically means that I know nothing about children and have never come in contact with them and have zero experience with them. But I am pretty sure that three year olds can't buy shoes ( my three year old niece told me ) so, don't buy heels for a three year old if you don't want them to wear them.

However, if you disagree, don't think they are inappropriate and think they are cute - then by all means, buy them and let them wear them.

I don't mean to offend but I don't understand the argument like its totally out of her hands ( or any mother's hands ) what the child wears.

IMO this is different than the dreaded "jacket/no jacket" debate which I assume can be a battle of wills - but one thing that CAN be controlled is - what is available for the child to choose in the first place.

i'll be hiding under my desk if anyone needs me! Chat Icon

It has nothing to do with not saying "no" to your child....it's all about picking your battles.

believe me my daughter was little once too and i understand what you are saying, talk to me about picking battles when she 12 going on 20.Chat Icon i personally think she looks cute but...

scientologists do not say no to there kids, they just don't so in addition to suri being a typical toddler she will by all estimations test a little more due to her parents beliefs.

I understand what you're saying....but the way it was said made me feel that you were implying she is allowed to wear heels/go out with messy hair because the parents don't say "no" to her....and that it's bad parenting.
My daughter is known to do both of those things, so it hit a nerve.

i dont have a child yet but will in may and believe me, if its a girl, she will not be walking around in 1.5-2inch heels at 3(ish?) and i remember being a child and my mother telling me (when I would scream as she brushed my hair) if i dont brush it, we cut it ALL off. You BET it was combed and well kept and not in my face and i was NOT an easy child to deal with. As a parent, you make the rules and the child should learn that from an early age. It is for their well being and they will thank you later in life as I thank my mom 25 years later. Of course, JMHO! Chat Icon

I know this is just your opioion, but really? Good luck when and if you have a girl or boy no less, that won't do anything you tell them too.

Wearing a pair of half inch heals a few tiems is not letting your chld run the show and is certanily not putting her in any danger.

I don't see a problem with her wearing those shoes, there are more important things in life.

Re: Suri Cruise

Because we've seen these heels in quite a few photos with various dresses (and some that don't match), I can guarantee that Suri has a favorite accessory. It's not like the child is out wearing different styles of heels which would mean it's being encouraged.

For the naysayers without em- you'll see when/if you have a toddler. Sometimes it's just easier to pick your battles. Life with a toddler is one big fat power struggle. The age of 3 is just too young for them to fully understand "the look" from mom to fall in line. They have to be tricked into doing what we want most of the time anyway.

For example, this morning we struggled through brushing teeth, brushing hair, getting dressed and eating a full breakfast. But she wanted to wear the hot pink boa and pink cowboy hat someone gave her when we did the Komen walk a few weeks ago. It looked ridiculous, but hell- it made her feel like she had some control over her day and I won all the big previously mentioned power struggles.

I don't like the idea of the heels...I wouldn't buy them...so she couldn't fight me to wear them.
ETS: I just saw Tilde's post and I agree 100% and I did have a toddler at one point..if "I" didn't think it was appropriate, tanturm or not, I wouldn't buy it.

Re: Suri Cruise

On a side note, Katie Holmes is shooting a movie on the North Fork right now. My husband sells real estate out here, and a couple of months ago he had gotten a call from the location people to check out a listing he had for them to rent to film the movie. They went with another house out here, but they told him some of the actors that would be in it. She's in the movie along with Elijah Wood, Anna Paquin, and some other people that I can't remember.

We heard that Suri was spotted (I'm assuming with Katie) at the Frisky Oyster in Greenport on Thursday. Also, my husband's cousin saw Elijah Wood at the Whiskey Wind in Greenport this past week.

So, there's a good chance that Suri may be trick-or-treating in her heels on Long Island, lol.Chat Icon

Re: Suri Cruise

I agree with not buying something you deem inappropriate. Obviously Katie Holmes has no qualms about allowing her kid to wear heels every so often.

I think some people feel her parenting skills/ability to set boundaries shouldn't be questioned because of such a benign reason, especially by people who aren't parents of toddlers. It's so easy to say, "Well I would NEVER...." when we haven't been in the situation.

My sister is doing it and it is working out very fine thank you!! And it will with my kids.

ETA: see its these personal snyde comments that turn the thread from people posting and debating there opinions to drama. I could easily have said:

"Good luck with controlling your kids as teens" - but i know how to debate without taking it personal.

I said over and over that its two different parentign skills and I dont think anyone is wrong for parentign the way they want.

Yes, you make your rules, but some days fighting the battle isn't worth it.

Maybe five days out of seven, Suri is in sneaks or flats, but the two she has on these heels, she is photographed.

And no matter what, no matter how strict the parents are, there are days where you give into your kidsChat Icon
