Super bummed
I failed my stinkin' 1-hour test. By a lot. By 30 points.
UGHHHHHH.
So now I have to go take the 3-hour tomorrow, and I have to take the day off.
The thing is, I'm PETRIFIED that I will fail it. My dad has diabetes, as did his mother, and I've been trying so hard to avoid going down that path ... I know there's nothing I can do if I do have GD, but it just sucks.
I've been a model pregnant lady ... I am only up 12 lbs. at almost 29w ... I just feel like sh!t that there's nothing I can do about this ...
Pity party for one, please.
ETA that I feel like of COURSE I have GD because I'm a Fatty McFatFat to begin with, and now I'm cursing myself for being overweight and a mess. UGHHHHHH and now I'm crying at my desk at work.

Re: Super bummed
Try not to stress so many people fail the 1 hr and go on to pass the 3 hour with flying colors! Don't blame yourself, you've been an excellent pregnant woman, it happens to so many people.

Re: Super bummed
Oh Marissa, don't feel that way!!!!!!!!!!!! Your body is beautiful and it has nothing to do with whether or not you have GD. If it's any inspiration, my twig of a best friend in Boston failed the one-hour by a ton and passed the 3-hour.
Even if you have GD, you already are doing everything you need to in order to keep yourself in check so you won't have to change much of anything! You'll just get extra attention to assure that you and your DD are safe the rest of your pregnancy. Extra attention is good!
Plus, I'll make sure to send a junior's chocolate swirl cheesecake to you in the hospital (or maybe to your home once you're back) or some other sort of decadent treat to eat as soon as she's here!!! It's not that much longer now -- you can do whatever they need you to for yourself and the baby over a few months! And then you'll have your baby!!!!
Keep the forest in sight and don't let the trees knock you down. And you're BEAUTIFUL and not fatty mc fat fat or whatever you said that's ridiculous. Sheesh.
Did I tell you how my 5 y/o nephew was drawing a picture of the family when they were over a few weeks ago and he drew me as a giant blob and everyone else as stick figures? I asked him if I was still pregnant in the picture and he said "no"... embrace the blob!!! Sorry not really relevant but I thought I'd be so upset by it and I wasn't.
I hope you feel better! Sending love from down south!!!

Re: Super bummed
I know exactly how you feel!!!
There is a chance you can pass the 3-hour, but if your body can't process the sugar, it's nothing you can control and it happens.
It happened to me and now I have GD, I'm on their horrible diet of very limited carbs, but on the plus side, I get to see my LO each week for sonograms.
If you want to talk or vent, please feel free to FM me!!!

Re: Super bummed
Thank you girls so much ... I have been feeling sorry for myself all day. It's just so hard to feel like I'm not at fault for this. I mean sure, I have a family history of diabetes, but me being overweight is all on me, you know? I could have prevented that ...
Ugh. DH keeps telling me not to worry until I fail the 3-hour but I can't help it ... I have always been a glass half empty kind of person. DH told me if I can remain "not pessimistic" he'll be happy, lol ... he knows better than to expect optimism.
Thanks for all the kind words ... I will of course update you ladies whenever I get the results of the 3-hour.

Re: Super bummed
DON'T FEEL THAT WAY
Honestly GD is genetic (I think) my friend who is average weight had it bc her dad is diabetic. Also my moms friend who is very thin had it! I do not think it has anything to do w/weight and like you said you have been a model preggo lady!
Honestly I feel like you can't prevent it

Re: Super bummed
Good luck and don't blame yourself. You didn't do anything to cause this. I have two friends that had GD, both are super skinny. One did have diabetes in her family and the doctor told her she was destined to have it, but she was totally able to handle it through diet and was fine. The other friend had no diabetes in her family, and she did not take her diagnosis seriously and had to take insulin. I'm worried b/c my mom had it with her 2nd pregnancy, but the nurse dismissed this when I told her.

Re: Super bummed
im sorry your bummed. I have gd and im not gonna lie, it does s*ck, but it could definitly be worse. It has nothing to do with your weight during pregnancy or before. I didn't fail the three hour I threw it up so they assumed I failed and with one week of blood sugar testing it was confirmed that I had it. And now im looking at another 7 weeks and I will be back to being gd free. Feel free to FM me if you are diagnosed with gd or not.

Re: Super bummed
Oh Marissa....
This is something out of your control at the moment. Don't worry until the three-hour is over. And then just make adjustments accordingly. I know it sucks. I've read SO many "I failed the 1 hour" threads on here and then women wind up passing the three hour. If not, you worry about it then, your doctor will work with you, and you adjust your diet for a couple of weeks.
You should be proud that you've only gained 12! I'm halfway through and I'm already up to 10.
I'm around if you need someone to talk to!

Dont beat yourself up, it is nothing you can control! And if it makes you feel better, my friend had GD and she was literally a rail before getting pregnant. Super skinny her entire life!
