Stupid Question about Lollipops!
Just had to ask..My DD is 15 months now. At my job I have people all the time who come into my office and give their small children Dum dum pops. I have also been to bday partys where the give out lollipops in the goodie bags,. I don't give DD any candy anyway but the idea of a lollipop scares the crap outta me. She eats great, no issues chewing or anything but idk. Is this fear rational or no?

Re: Stupid Question about Lollipops!
I probably didn't give DD a lollipop until she was about 3, and even now there's no way I'd give her a dumdum. I usually give her bigger ones that she can't bite, though it's rare she has one at all. I know a lot of people don't think it's a big deal, but you're not being irrational, in my opinion. This is coming from someone who had to use the heimlich on her child, you don't want to ever have to do that.

Stupid Question about Lollipops!
I feel the same as you. Mine are 4 and 2 and I still have the same fear. My twins are 4 and did not have a lollipop until almost 2 and that was when they went to get their hair cuts. They sat in the stroller and I took it away from them before we started walking again. If they get one at the Drs office after their shots or something I take it away as soon as we get to the car. They're great eaters all three of them and they bite and chew on the lollipops now but I still get very nervous.

Re: Stupid Question about Lollipops!
I don't allow them and my child is 5. They have zero nutritional value, are choking hazards, and are terrible for their teeth.

Stupid Question about Lollipops!
My dd is 2.5 and I allowed her to have a lollipop about 2. I dont leave her alone with it. I dont let her run around. She has never tried to bite it and she has never even come close to finishing it. I dont allow it everyday or even weekly, but it helps to calm her after the dr or at parties if they are given out. Shes had regular ones and dums dums... never really scared me personally.

Agreed, but my DD is only 18 months. I don't see lollipops in her near or distant future.

Our girls were 2 and they were at BJs facing me in the cart. It was a mess so that's the only time they got one.

I feel like my daughter would totally chomp down on it and instantly choke. I am also afraid of fruit snacks and gummy bears...

Re: Stupid Question about Lollipops!
DS is 2 and has been getting lollipops for a while. The first time I was nervous and made DH watch him the entire time. But he's fine with it! He have never bitten it and usually only has it for a few minutes before saying "all done" and giving it to us. (Then he usually asks for another one a few minutes later, but that's another story).

Ooo I totally get it! No judgement here. There are things my friends allow for their kids that I dont allow for mine. To each is own, you know your child and what is best for them :)

Re: Stupid Question about Lollipops!
My girls will NEVER EVER EVER have a dum dum lollipop! When my mom 13 she was babysitting a 3 yr old and her parents said to her that after she eats dinner she can have a dum dum lollipop. So my mom let her. She was sitting in the kitchen chair and just turned blue. My mom was 13 and freaked out and barely knew how to do the heimlich maneuver. She flipped her over and started to strike her back and the stupid lollipop came flying out. My mom and her cried for a long time. Just hearing that story has freaked me out enough to never let my kids have one.

Stupid Question about Lollipops!
I give my kids lollipops but I'm not a big dum dum fan bc of the paper stick. The lollipop falls off a lot of times. I do give lollipops though. Imo not letting kids have lollipops by the time they are over 2, is a bit over-protective. I just keep an eye on them eating it.
