Strep B
Well, I have the Strep B bacteria. I did so well this pregnancy and then I get a positive for the Strep B bacteria. For you ladies that have been tested positive for this what do they do to make sure that it is not given to the baby during labor. I was told as soon as my water breaks that I have to get to the hospital and be put on antibiotics. Can they do anything before hand also to play it safe.

Re: Strep B
I really don't think it is a big deal. I think you just need antibiotics when you go in to labor...

Re: Strep B
There's nothing you can do before labor...it's something that has to be treated during labor. I forget the stats, but it's something like 98-99% of babies born to moms with Strep B won't get infected with it. The antibiotics will help in the off chance that your baby falls in the 1-2% who do catch it.

Re: Strep B
My sister just gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl and she had strep b. They put her on antibiotics when she went into labor and everything was fine.

Re: Strep B
its totally not a big deal, when your water breaks, they hook you up to IV for two bags of antibiotics

Re: Strep B
I had it..there is nothing you can or can't do to prevent it, its just in the body at diff. times and something like 40% of women test positive for it.
They gave me antibiotic when I was admitted just in case and all was fine!
