Strep and fever

DD was dx with strep yesterday. She has taken 3 doses of antibiotics, so far, and still spiking a temp when the Ibuprofen starts to wear off. Is this normal? She has never had strep before, only ear infections, and her fever is usually gone after the first or second dose of antibiotics. She's so miserable.

When I had strep last year it took a good 3 days on meds to feel better and break the fever. Strep is no joke. Give it another day or 2

My dd was just dx with strep tonight. Her only symptom was a fever for 4 days prior to going to the dr. The last time (and first time) she had strep last year it took 3 different antibiotics before it was gone. She had on and off fever for 2 weeks. If she is still sick in another few days she may need a stronger antibiotic. Good luck

Thanks. Thought the fever had finally broke but my mom said it is creeping up again. Ugh! I will take her back to the doctor and see if they think it's a concurrent virus or if she needs a different med. She is like never sick except for a yearly ear infection so this is out in left field for me (and her).

Give the antibiotic 48 hours, minimum, to work.

I think it took about 48 hours on the antibiotics before DD's fever was gone this summer. Give it a little more time.

Honestly with strep I don't try and fight the fever with ibuprofen as we find it doesn't work with dd. Just have to give it the antibiotic time to do its job. Strep is the only time my dd really runs fevers so I just do.cool compresses. Last time she ran a fever for 3 to 4 days from 99 to 102.
