Stonybrook Hospital reviews

Just wondering if anyone has delivered there recently and what your experience was like. The good and the bad.

I had a horrible hospital experience last time so I'm hoping if I do this again elsewhere things will be better.

ETA: Do you have access to a lactation consultant while at the hospital?

Will they take the baby overnight and just bring in for feedings if you ask?

Haven't delivered there yet but I know people who had fantastic experiences and people who had subpar experiences. I was just in L&D for BP monitoring on Monday and I thought the nurses and doctors were great but I was also only there for 3 hours.

Re: Stonybrook Hospital reviews

I delivered there in 2009 and 2013 I can tell you the rooms are beautiful private clean awesome food great!! Big difference with hands on nurses from 2009 to 2013 You have to ask for everything they hold back a lot unless you ask for it. so different from my 2009 delivery. they want baby with you 24hrs which is fine but can be alittle overwhelming for first time moms thank god it was my second and I had a vaginal delivery. I said to my hubby if I had a C-section how would they expect these mothers to jump up out the bed to get the baby everytime they cry. JMHO

I delivered there in 2005 and 2009..I had great experiences but will say that the LC did not come around until my last day (there 4-5 day- both were C-sections) so if you plan to breast feed, def go in with some knowledge and don't be afraid to ask the nurses for help!

Re: Stonybrook Hospital reviews

I delivered in 2012. Had a great experience. Much different them my delivery in 2009 at a different hospital. I had a bad experience the first time around and switched doctors for my second so I could deliver at Stony brook. Wish I had a private room and bathroom first time around.
Was visited by lactation consultant plus a nice nurse who had students. She helped me out a lot too.
Food was even good.
Baby was in room 24hrs not like my first time around. Not sure if they will take baby to nursery. I think a lot of hospitals are like this now.

Great, great experience!!! LOVED it. I delivered in 12/2011 and I felt like I was at a resort hotel. Private rooms, big screen tvs, private bathrooms with granite/ marble, food was amazing and too much for me to eat so DH and I shared almost every meal! Starbucks was a 2 minute walk away, and we went there to drink and sat. Felt like a little date. They took the baby whenever we wanted. They had him most of the night except for feedings or if he was cranky. You do have to ask if you need something, Im not sure they would have taken him if I didn't ask. Also LC I had to ask for and she has difficulty with him latching and said there wasn't much we could do yet since it was just colostrum but that he would get it (I ended up hiring a LC at home). Also since its a teaching hospital they were in every few hours to check vitals etc unless you ask them to try to consolidate those together. Overall, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else it was so great!

Stonybrook is AMAZING! You will be so happy there!

Like everyone else said - rooms are gorgeous and private and you have your own bathroom. You will have access to a lactation consultant but you have to ask to see her. I found the nurses to be extremely helpful so I didn't ask to see the LC this time around. (I actually found the LC to be kind of annoying the first time I delivered.) I found that you really have to ask for everything now (i.e. formula) as opposed to my first time delivering there. They will happily give you everything you need when you ask though. The policy is 24 hour rooming with the mom but they will definitely take the baby overnight if you ask. Good luck! Chat Icon
