stomach virus....dumb questions
DS is almost 3 and this morning he woke up with an upset stomach. He's thrown up three times, but not very much is coming up. I gave him some diluted Apple juice and that has come up, too. Poor kid is hardly ever hit with a stomach bug...last time he 'threw out the mouth' was back in his daycare days before younger DS was born, and that was more than a year ago... Sooooo, I haven't had the experience of a stomach thing hitting more than one dc in my house. Younger DS is 13mo...anything I should do to proactively help the situation to keep younger DS (or me/dh) from getting it too - or should I just plan for us to all be sick for the remainder of dh's holiday time? Tia.

I'd hope for the best & expect the worst, to be honest. I would think that everyone would have ben "exposed" before the icky symptoms started, but I may be wrong.
keep everyone hydrated with water and hopefully it passes quickly!

Re: stomach virus....dumb questions
DD had it a few days ago... we were visiting my parents for the weekend. Knock on wood, no one else caught it. Washing your hands frequently is probably the best you could do.

Re: stomach virus....dumb questions
DS2 has it now. He threw up twice yesterday and once on Sunday. It is mostly the diarrhea that has affected him. The ped told me yesterday that it could last as long as close to 2 weeks! This is the worst virus they have seen in a long time. Basically, just lots of hand washing (by both of you) and Lysol all hard surfaces!
As far as what they can eat/drink, I was advised: bland foods (cheerios, pasta, banana, applesauce, toast, bread) water pedialyte no milk or dairy (can drink Lactaid milk/yogurt)

Thanks...poor kid can't even get off the couch, and can't keep even juice down. Feel so bad for him.
And I selfishly feel bad for myself because DH and I made plans tonight to finally hire a sitter for a much-needed date night. Oh well....
Also hoping this passes quickly...can't take several weeks of this!

Re: stomach virus....dumb questions
We just had coxsackie hit our house but fortuntely it was contained. The older one never got it so my advice since they are both similarly contact contagious versus airborne:
- Wash hands often - Limit the toys the sick child plays with and keep them in a container...was at the end of play or day - Keep your youngest one away from the older one as much as possible - Don't reuse clothing (pjs, etc) and throw in the laundry pile at the end of each day
Hope he feels better soon!
