Stink Bugs! PSA
I had a co-worker who had one who killed it because he didn't know what it was. Huge mistake. He said his house smelled for a few days and it was in the basement.
Well after hearing his story a few weeks ago, I had googled to see what it looked like I am glad I did because we had one in our house yesterday.
Just want to warn you all, DON'T kill it as much as you want to. It attracts more. It was the size between a nickel and a quarter.
Apparently they have made their way to eastern Long Island.

OMG, one of those bugs was stuck between the window glass and the screen. Thankfully, it wasn't in my house and it left when I opened the screen. But, if it was in my house, I would have definitely smushed it.

Re: Stink Bugs! PSA
Even if you don't kill them they still can spray. If you hold a live one in your hand it will spray you. Can't believe they made it to Long Island. I am in NJ and they are all over. If I only saw one I would be THRILLED!!! My friend had to literally sweep her deck becasue there were so many, hundreds. Good luck!

OMG these things have been ALL over my house the past few days. I have no idea how they get in. MY IL's have them further down south so I knew not to kill them. I've just been flushing them.
How the heck do you keep them out of your house??? I hate them!!

I've seen these around here for years. I read on here they are stink bugs a while ago. I never kill them, just get them on a paper and throw them in the toilet or outside

Eliminate cracks, crevices, and openings around doors, window frames, fascia, etc. with caulk (silicone) 4. Replace or repair damaged screens or doors 5. Remove window air conditioning units that provide direct access to interior

Re: Stink Bugs! PSA
I live in Rockland County and we've been dealing with these guys for years now. Every fall we have to seal the windows because they get in. Their odor smells very musty. It's not like a gross garbage smell or anything..just like musty and stale. But yes, if you kill them and they spray, it attracts more. Don't vaccuum them either...they'll spray into the vaccuum cleaner and you're carpets will forever smell like stink bug. We made that mistake last year and had to buy a new vaccuum cleaner .
I will say though that this year already has been far worse than we've seen in years past. They're EVERYWHERE. It's disgusting.

OMG!!! That's what those are?!?!?!? There was one in my den the other night and I freaked out. I sucked him up in the vacuum cleaner. Then I saw 3-4 outside on my sliding door. Never saw them before then and now they keep popping up. Thanks for the PSA.

I've had a problem with them at my house for years. We get one or two every few months, I just put them on a piece of paper and take them outside. I've never actually had them stink up my house.

Re: Stink Bugs! PSA
We are getting alot more of these this year! I read an article that said they are going to be in larger numbers this year due to weather, etc. Well I am SEEING it for my own eyes.
Now, when we find them, we pick them up with a wet wipe and doggie poop bag and just tie the bag up.
They are gross but they can't harm us so I try to keep a level head. I have improved from years ago...now if its a bug that cant hurt me I can maintain some kind of composure.

Re: Stink Bugs! PSA
Oh yeah they are horrid. They are in NJ. But you can't release them or flush them down the toilet because they WILL come back up the toilet. You need to trap them. We keep old medicine bottles, and make up cream bottles and you trap them in that and then have to throw the entire thing out. If you let them outside they will come back and breed more. So you have to live trap them. It is disgusting. I leave it to my DH to do it when we find them in the house. The come in the late fall/early winter.

LOL yes.. this I know.. they are called 'stink bugs' for a reason.. but let me give you a little more advice.. you do NOT want to be bit by one.. they hurt SOOOOOOOOOO badly!
I've heard that you can use a water, soap mixture to protect the outside of the house and spray one with lysol.
Mostly though the advice is LEAVE IT ALONE. Toss it outside if you must.. but don't let them in. They are actually more of an east coast thing but we've seen them here once in a blue moon. There's a new breed invading as well.
Here's some helpful tips
again mostly we just leave them alone. .. ok or we do drop them into water with soap and yes, I've seen mothers outside spraying cheap perfume on windows LOL but really havent seen a stink bug in YEARS
