Start time for 1 year old Bday Party?

Do you plan the start time of your childs bday party around their nap?

My DD will be 1 in May and we would like to have it in our backyard. She usually naps around 1pm. If she doesn't have that nap she is a loon. Would you start the party at 2pm when hopefully her nap is over or would you have people come at 12:00 or 1:00pm even when she is sleeping?

I have been invited to tons of parties lately that start at 3pm and I totally understand that it is to be after nap time but I feel like having our entire family over at 3pm is not worth it b/c the day feels almost over already.

What time would you start a 1 yr old bday party?

Try and put your DD in around 12:30 and call it for 2. If she's still napping then greet your guests when they come in and gives you a chance to socialize a bit. Worst case she's a little late for her own party. Rather later than cranky. Plus, while she naps it gives you plenty of time to set everything up and have a drink before family arrives. I think we did DS's 1st bday around noon. By the end of his party, he passed out on my shoulder. It was cute, actually. I never schedule around nap times since that can vary. For his 2nd bday we also did a noon start. He napped around 3:30pm when everyone left. It was a late nap for him, and he was fine during the party.

By the time May gets here her nap time could be completely different. Just plan it for when you want and dd will nap when needed

I would just plan it and deal with the day as it comes. At a year my DS was down to one nap but it was from 12-3 so there was not way we could plan our day around it or we would never do anything. Its one day...if she's a loon she's a loon.

I had my DD 1st birthday party start at one. She was excited with all the people and everything going on around her that it really didn't effect a nap. Once everyone left, she was passed out for the night. I had her two year old party start at one also and will do the same for her 3 year old party.

I wouldn't skip her nap - especially on a day that you dont want her to be cranky and tired, but thats just me. I would plan it for after the nap. Like 2 or 3. I dont think 3 is too late. Most baby bday parties are only 3 hours anyway. I would think people would start leaving by 6 anyway

Speaking as a guest I would much rather go to a kid's party at 3 as opposed to earlier. I feel like much earlier takes up the whole day.

If you started it at 1:30 would she sleep for a half hour through the chaos of everyone arriving? I would start a party after her nap. Only bc my daughter when tired can be extremely difficult.

I'm also planning my DR'S 1st birthday for June. Right now be does 2 naps a day. I have no idea what his naps will be like in June. But I'd guess if I have a party that starts at 1 it will be during his future nap time. I'm just going to go with the flow. He'll be too excited with all the people around to nap. We try not to live our lives around his naps.

Start time for 1 year old Bday Party?

DD's party starts at 12:45 but she doesn't really have a set in stone nap time. If she did, I'd probably start it at the tail end of her nap time.

Start time for 1 year old Bday Party?

Started my DS' s party at 1. Right at nap time. For all 3 years now he has skipped his nap for the party. He's usually fine and then goes to bed right after everyone leaves. gives me the chance to do final clean up and un wind

Start time for 1 year old Bday Party?

I think maybe I will wait to decide on a time closer til May so I can see what her schedule is like. SO far if she misses a nap its crazyville but maybe at 1 yr old she would be more excited then anything else. I will hafta wait and see. Thanks for all the opinions =)

I agree. Your baby's 1st bday is a big deal to you, I'm sure, and it understandable that you wouldn't want her to be cranky the whole time. I would probably plan it for 2 or 3 if I were you. Just keep in mind that by May she may be napping at a different time of day or for longer or shorter each day. I feel like my DD's sleep habits change every few months. We had booked her 1st bday party for a time we thought would work with her nap, but we booked a couple months before her bday. By the day of the party she had started needing her nap later in the day and so we had to cut her nap short to get to the restaurant in time. But luckily she wasn't cranky during the party, and she passed out as soon as we got home afterwards.

We had it at a restaurant so we didn't really have flexibility of when it started. But it started at 1, DS missed his nap and by the end of the party he passed out.

Def after nap.
The day is still young at 3 & I'd consider having it then!
You could always have close relatives come earlier.

I did my son's party 12-3. He took about a 45 min nap during the party. It gave me a chance to socialize with everyone else.

We did both of my DS parties at around 1PM and both napped in the afternoon. I figured if they fell asleep, people would not mind, but there was so much going on that they were awake the whole time! I wouldn't worry too much- if she falls asleep, I am sure people will understand!

I am going with this schedule as well
my sons bday is 12-3
i am going to try and get him in for an early nap and then a nap after party

We were in the same boat. I'm pretty sure we started it at 2 and I just put her down a little early and woke her a little early. She is a trooper and will rally for any party though. I definitely remember that she was so overtired and didn't sleep that night which made her actual birthday the next day miserable. I actually sent her and dh to his friend's for a few hours bc I was so exhausted the next day which stunk.
