Spitzer question- Disappointed

People seem so angry at what he did, but is anyone else disappointed? I liked that he talked a good talk about morality. I really hoped he would try to clean up some of the corruption out there. Instead, he made things even worse.

I feel like I just lost what little faith I had left in politicians. I guess there really aren't any honest ones who make it to the big leagues. Its so sad. Chat Icon

Yup- ITA w/ what you wrote. I was saying that last night- how disgusting I think it is that most people in power seem to lack morals... like they lost them somewhere along they way, while they were trying to gain power.

ITA -- I'm so disheartened. I really liked him and was so happy to have him as the governor. I'm very sad about it from so many perspectives. Chat Icon

Re: Spitzer question- Disappointed

Honestly - I am embarrassed!! That was my first reaction and it is still how I feel.

I am embarrassed that I voted for him, embarassed that he represent(ed) New York, and embarassed for his family.

He should be ashamed of himself.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was hoping that the rumors of paying for sex were untrue, and he had just had an illicit affair, since his platform was on ethical behavior. It just proves that no politcian is clean in any context. I know they're all human, but jesus, have some common decency while representing the needs of millions!

Angry? I'm not angry. I am definitely disappointed. I felt like he was the first one in a long time willing to clean up politics and go to bat for the voters rather than the lobbyists.

Such a shame that this is his legacy & the only thing I can think is "what a stupid, stupid man to blow it all" (no pun intended)

Shelly - I feel exactly like you do. I worked for him while he was the AG and I was in law school. I am so disappointed and angry. I really lost faith and am not sure that I will ever want to be involved in politics again.

Re: Spitzer question- Disappointed

I can honestly say I'm not disappointed in him. From the very beginning, there was something about Eliot Spitzer that I did NOT trust. This was to the point where I didn't even vote for governor, when he ran. I didn't like any of the candidates, least of all him, and I normally can't stand when people just don't vote. I'm disgusted, but not disappointed. This might sound crazy, or like I'm making it up, but I figured him for "slimy" from the first time I laid eyes on him. I almost feel vindicated in that my initial feeling was right on target. I've disliked him from the very beginning. When he came on the news & gave his press conference for his resignation, I was actually sitting on the couch yelling at the TV. He was still calling it a "private matter." This affects the entire state of New York! How selfish and narrow-minded can someone be?!?

Good riddance.

Re: Spitzer question- Disappointed

I was dissapointed in Bill Clinton. With Spitzer, I am just annoyed and irritated. The difference might be that now I have a government job and have far lower expectations of politicians than I used to.
