Spinoffto co-sleeping: Does anyone doze off while breastfeeding at night?
Has anyone fallen asleep while they were breastfeeding at night?
DD sleeps in the bassinet next to our bed and when she is hungry at night I just sit up, put the boppy around me and feed her. I have to admit that I sometimes fall asleep when I 'm feeding her. It's not exactly a deep sleep because I'm sitting up but I am still dozing off. DD is usually half asleep when she eats and falls right back to sleep when she is done so I will put her back in the bassinet.
Should I take her in a different room to feed her so I will be more awake? It will probably wake her up too but the co-sleeping threads have me rethinking this.

Re: Spinoffto co-sleeping: Does anyone doze off while breastfeeding at night?
I have definitely dozed off a couple of times. But I don't nurse in bed. Both my sons slept in their own rooms from the start. So nighttime feedings always happen in the glider in the baby's room. I sit with my feet up on the ottoman, slightly reclined, with the Boppy on my lap. So I know it's practically impossible to smother him or for him to fall, but I still get scared if I wake up and realized I've dozed off. I would definitely be nervous if I were in bed. Beds and infants just worry the heck out of me because of all the big fluffy softness. If it were me, I'd probably go to another room if you find you are often falling asleep.

Honest answer? Yes.
It did not deter me from cosleeping though.
As soon as I woke up, I moved her to her crib or to the cosleeping contraption with the Velcro sides on our bed.
You have to do what makes you comfortable. I have no issue with cosleeping. I made sure to remove all comforters and big pillows.
But if you are concerned then you should feed her in a different room so it makes it less likely for you to fall asleep.

I did once.... In the glider.
I have two friends who dropped their babies to the floor this way.
I now only feed with the TV on.

Yes, all the time. I was afraid of nursing in the glider in the middle of the night in case I fell asleep and dropped DS so instead I just nursed sitting up in bed.

Re: Spinoffto co-sleeping: Does anyone doze off while breastfeeding at night?
I was worried about this when DD was younger but at about 5 months I figured out a comfortable way to bf in the side lying position...so during the day for naps...this is how I bf and if I'm sleepy....we both snooze. I'm not Nina deep sleep so I'm not worried about it. I don't do it in the middle of the night bc I don't want dd to wake up expecting to come into bed with me. I sometimes snooze in the glider while feeding her,,, but she's I my arms and my feet are up on the bench...so it would be hard to actually drop her.
I was much more careful when DD was a newborn...
