Same here, I've gone to afternoon movies by myself and enjoyed it. When I lived in Queens I'd spend a day in Manhattan. LOTS of people there seem to go to movies alone.
I was going to see Brokeback Mountain by myself this week, since DH does not want to see it. But I decided that I'd rather wait for the DVD.

I have once and only once. I clearly remember it too; my parents had gone out to Jersey one day and I came home without keys so I couldn't get back into the apt. I was pretty much killing time. It was a nice experience, though. But I am pretty self-conscious when it comes to something like that.
