Re: spinoff to WHY....

I hate when kids are at the movies. I had a 3 year old sitting next to me during boogie nightsChat Icon

As far as church, I totally disagree. I think it is up to the parents to start proper church behavior from the start. I hate seeing obnoxious 7 year olds in church more then I hate the occasional crying baby. We were never allowed to talk in church, bring toys, or got to the bathroom. These kids with coloring books drive me crazy. It is less then an hour. That hour should be total and complete discipline. If your kid is not going to be good in God's house, then you have a ton of problems.

Re: spinoff to WHY....

This is one of my pet peeves!! I get so annoyed when there are crying children at the movies, especially when the movie is late at night! I constantly see parents with their kids under 8 or so at 10pm and later movies, and it drives me absolutely nuts.

As far as kids at church or synagogue, I believe there needs to be a balance. My sister brings the kids to synagogue, but when they start acting up, she will bring them out. However, you don't want to teach kids that whenever they act up, they get to leave the services, b/c they might start using that as a way to escape. I think that kids need to be exposed to services as young as possible in order to learn how to behave respectfully.

Oh this thread hit the nail on the head!

One of my biggest pet peeves is when you are in a restaurant waiting for a table and CAN'T EVEN SIT AT THE BAR because a bunch of snot nosed whiny children are taking up all the room there. HELLO! Are they old enough to drink...if not get the F out of the bar!Chat Icon

No no no....babies do NOT belong in movie theatres!!! I can't even imagine WHAT the parents who bring them there are thinking!! How do they plan to enjoy the movie???

Kids belong at kids movies.

Church is a family thing... that's one place they definitely DO belong.

I can say that I have never been to a movie where this has happened. But I think it is wrong. Its bad enough it costs almost 10bucks to see a movie. But to try and watch one with a crying baby is just not courtious to the people around you.Chat Icon

1) I agree with you 100000000000% about the movie theater. We haven't been to the movies since my daughter has been born and we don't plan on it anytime soon with her. At the time that she is ready to go to the movies it will be a G movie and during the day! I would NEVER take her to the movies at night and a R one at that! It's rude of people to be so self-absorbed and inconsiderateChat Icon

2) The restaurant thing- I have to say sometimes you HAVE to get out and sadly you do have no one to watch the kids. We have gone out to eat with our daughter and she is NOT old enough to understand proper behavior so we do the following to avoid a problem:
A) We try to go at off times so that it is not as crowded
B) We always ask for our check as soon as they bring the food- usually before we have even taken a bite- just in case she acts up we can make a fast break for it
C) Always apologize to anyone that is near us even if she makes a noise.

3) The church thing- our church doesn't have a crying room they encourage children to behave how they want because as my pastor says he wants this to be a second home. I don't agree with this but I can see where he is coming from. But I especially don't agree with Don's statement that we should go at seperate times that is ridiculous! We barely have time as a family to fit church in let alone two different masses. That is absurd! Now a days with lives being as busy as they are, there are so few things people get to do as a family and this is one of them! I don't think children should be disrupting other people's mass or tranquility but sometimes they just do. Everyone loves to see our daughter at mass. They ask for her and call when she is not there. In 6 months of regular attendance at church she only had one 'bad' day and we apologized to everyone they could and they all said everyone is entitled. When she had her 'bad' day I did try to take her out of the church and calm her but I was told over the mike to sit down and let her be Chat Icon Chat Icon

I do agree with parents should be responsible for their children and their behavior though- the Kate Spade sale thing- I would be annoyed with that too Chat Icon I was at Kohl's and there were 3 boys running through the store and tipping racks over and destroying the place. I had my daughter in the stroller and I was knocking into stuff like crazy because of the mess they made. The store employees did nothing and the parent (s) were no where to be found- that is RIDICULOUS IMO! Shame on that parent!Chat Icon

ETA: At church we make an effort to sit by the same people every week. The ones that we know don't mind our daughter being there at all.
