Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
Sort of related to the gift question - If you had a guest at your wedding who did not give a gift, did you still send a thank you to them for attending the wedding?
For my wedding I had several people not give gifts (or even a card for that matter) but they all received thank yous.

Yes. This is a current issue for someone in my family and they did not send thank yous to people who did not give. And actually told a guest that wedding etiquette dictates that guests have 12 months to send gifts and that thank yous would be sent as gifts are received.
My personal feeling in this case is that you should have sent an invoice instead of a wedding invitation. Talk about a wedding being all about the gifts.

The wedding celebration is not about the gifts.
eta : I have been to two weddings where we have not received a thank you note, and that burns me. It is just plain rude. For one of the subsequent weddings, we were invited to their child's first birthday party. We were not as generous as we normally would have been, because we never received a TY for the wedding. This was a family member too.

Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
I didn't. It was my husband's co-worker. He rsvp'd yes with 2 people and his wife did not show up (found out during cocktail hour). He also told my husband numerous times that he would give a gift when they got paid. I probably would have sent a thank you if the situation was different.

HUGE pet peeve of mine! HUGE! It is SOOO rude to not send a thank you at all. I give very generous gifts at weddings and the few times I didn't get a thank you, it really changed the way I looked at the people. Manners people. Manners!

Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
Of course. I sent a thank you to an old friend of my father's, thanking them for celebrating, etc. Apparently, they had sent a gift that never made it to us because I got a borderline nasty (written) note back saying it "had become apparent that their gift had not arrived." The gift showed up about a week later. I'm glad it did because I would be furious if I spent good money on a gift and it never got to the recipient, but I almost felt like I had embarrassed the gifter and that was not my intention at all. It was weird.

I didn't have any of those. I personally would not send a thank you note. I can't imagine going to a wedding without a gift.

Yes and I have been married for over 20 years. There are many reasons why people don't give gifts but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a thank you for sharing that day with you.

You DO realize there are MANY reasons why people don't give gifts? Was the only reason you invited people was to get gifts and not share in your day?

Re: Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
I did not send a thank you note. Many will disagree with me, but etiquette says that you send a card to those who give a gift at the wedding. We had about 5 people not give gifts, or even just a card. 2 of them were bridal party members. We did send thank you cards to the 2 bridal party members, because we feel that maybe they thought they didn't need to give a gift because they spent money on the bachelor/bachelorette/shower/tux/dress/etc... While that is not really an "excuse" to not give a gift, we felt that they deserved the thank you card to let them know we were thankful for all they did for the wedding.
Anyway, you are technically not supposed to send a thank you card until you receive the gift from that person. Guests have one year to send a gift, though.
ETA: We did get one or two very heartfelt cards from friends with no gift. We sent thank you cards to them. It truly was not about $$, but about the fact that people at least gave a card. I think that is the right thing to do. That is why I didn't send thank you notes to the three people who literally came with nothing.

Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
I would send a thank you card to a "no gifter" if the no gifter is a bp member. In that case, they already spent so much money and time. Or, another exception would be if it's a destination wedding to the guest and they had to spend money to get to the wedding.

Spinoff to Wedding Gift - Thank You ??
In my circle, which perhaps is more formal, hand written thank you notes, never cards, are sent to people who send gifts. Wedding gifts, properly, should be sent to the bride before the wedding, so her notes start going out before the wedding and continue for a period afterwards.
A year afterwards is far too long for politeness. Nobody is that busy that they cannot get their thank you notes written within a few months. I used to sit down and do a bunch at a time.
