John is lucky he knows he has a peepee!!
But the new room at daycare he is moving into in a week has a potty in the room and unless he poops..they take him to the potty and ask if he wants to sit.
so they are starting him.. im not pushing it b/c they will train when they are ready.. there are sooo many battles to take on at this age...this is not one I want to pick..

Re: Spinoff to these potty training threads...its starting??
DS is 26 months. We've sort of started trying to potty train. But basically it's just been having him sit on his potty before his bath at night (or occasionally after when he says he wants too.) He's peed in it a few time, but for the last week or so has basically saying no thank you whenever we try and get him to sit on it. I am afraid of making it traumatic for him so I haven't been pushing.
He still doesn't seem to care if he's wet or dirty. Sometimes he tells us he pooped, but sometimes he is just lying and other times he won't tell us when he clearly has - he hates getting changed.
So, long story short, no, I don't think you are the only one.

Re: Spinoff to these potty training threads...its starting??
I think it's early but like I said way back, I have my MIL's influence.
we didn't really push it but we've been "promoting" it for a while and just within the past week or two HE has been the one to want to potty, to reject using pampers everthing...it just clicked.
and it has knocked me off my rails a bit b/c I was not anticipating certainly the way it is turning the way he goes to sleep upside down. we have to make a lot of changes soon b/c of it, but I guess it's not a bad thing.
my view is, it cannot hurt to try. but I would recommend having them off the night bottle first. this is tough.

Re: Spinoff to these potty training threads...its starting??
Nope, havent even bought a potty yet. He has gone on the potty like 3 times but only when we've asked him randomly. He has lately been telling us when he's going and which kind it is , so I'm thinking I should at least go buy a potty but there is no way in he l l I'm potty training with a newborn all at the same time.
We've done enough this month, lost the pacifier, successfully transitioned to big boy bed. . .it's more then I can handle at this time

Nope. Ty tells me he has to go pee pee randomly, and I will take him - but I am not pushing it at all. I truly don't believe they can get potty training until closer to three. Just my own opinion from training Jack. I'm in no rush at all.

DS is three. Sometimes he wants to go on the potty, most of the time he tells me 'later'.
He wants nothing to do with wearing underwear, he holds his legs closed and won't move if I put them on. I think he feels 'naked'.

This is us too. We bought the potty a while back just to get DD (2 years old) used to the idea of having it around and explaining it to her. And a few months ago, she started showing some interest. She has gone in the potty quite a few times now, but over the last few weeks she hasn't been interested at all. I'm definitely just following her lead with it though.

Jack and Ian are days apart and I dont think jack is ready either. I will be buying him the little potty b/c i may try this after the holidays are over.
right now, he will tell me if he pees in his diaper..he knows he has a peepee b/c he at times plays with it in the tub..lol.
I have let him in the bathroom with me, show him how to flush so he's not afraid. but other than that I havent done much else..

Re: Spinoff to these potty training threads...its starting??
I'm in NO rush to potty train DS. I figured maybe next summer, a couple of months before he turns 3 I'll try. Until then, I'm happy keeping him in diapers and not worrying about where the nearest bathroom is.
