Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

Quite a few people said that they are mistaken for being younger than their actual age.

Do you think this is related to the way you LOOK or the way you ACT?

For instance, do you act goofy and fun and people think you are young? Or do you have a hard time handling "adult" situations? I am just curious since this seems a popular misconception.

I think I look younger plus I have a quiet voice. I am 38 but I think I could pass for my earlier 30s.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

I'm pretty silly, but people think I'm young because I just have a young look. I'm almost 37 but most people think I'm in my late 20's.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

People think i'm younger just by the way I look. When i'm buying lotto tickets they need to see ID, at the seamstress when others are there they ask if i'm getting a prom dress altered, etc..

I'm 27 and constantly get that I look 17 or 18.

ETA: And I always get "YOU are married?? How old are you?"

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

I definitely have a young look.

I can be getting eyebrows or nails done and people say - you are married - you are too young. And get lectured on how I am too young to be married!! Then I tell them I can assure you I am not too young and I have a child and one on the way and I get Chat Icon when I say I am 34. I have had them guess hs/college!! It runs in my family!

At work people always would think I am younger (wearing a business suit and all prefessional) and everyone would say until I spoke and they actually worked with me that they realized I was not that young....heard that many times!

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

Def because I look younger...I have always been more mature than any other of my friends or family members - there is a reason I have been told "You're like a 50 year in a 20 years body"

Don't get me wrong - I def get my immature fits and my goofy fits...but I know when and where to have them

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

People have always thought I looked older. It's mainly because of the beard. I've had a beard since college, and it's always added at least 10 years. For a guy in a corporate environment, that's a good thing. In a few years, I may get rid of it so I'll lose those 10 years+.....

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

I look much younger and so does my husband!! He could pass for a 21 year old. we still get carded everywhere we go and I just turned 30. Some lady thought I was lying. LOL It gets to be annoying though at times. I guess when I much older I will like it better.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

for me it's looks

having long hair doesn't help either- but it's worse when my hair is pulled back in a pony tail- then I get asked for ID for lotto tickets

I can't remember the last time I didn't get asked for my ID to buy wine- even after work in my work clothes

I am also short- so I think that contributes alot to the fact that people think I look 20- when I am just about 30

Most people think that I am older than I really am. I think it's a combination of my actions, attitude, the way I portray myself, and they way I look.

I'm almost 25 people think I look 16 or 17... Its a looks thing for me, because if anything my behavior is mature for my age.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

I always looked young, but I will say this--it is catching up. At 28 or 29, I could pass for a teenager very easily. In my early 30s, I was carded all the time. Until about 35, people were shocked to hear my age. Now, in my late 30s, I can tell people my age and they may comment about how young I look, but I no longer get that total look of shock when I tell people my age.

I was never really a sun worshipper and I have never smoked cigarettes. I do look different from my friends who did both of those.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

I think it's how I look...and I know because just yesterday the accountant came in here and I'd never met him before and he said, "Wow! They're hiring younger! You can't be more than 25." I'm 29. Chat Icon Unless he was flirting or just being sweet....LOL

I am a big believer in sunscreen! In general, people say I look 25-ish. Not 16 young, but not almost 30, either.

Re: Spinoff to Misconceptions: Age

Until I was 35 people would think I was at least 5 years younger, even since I was a teenager.

After I reached 35, I have been looking my age. I am SOOO not used to that.
