Re: Spinoff to BCPs
I'm on Estrostep. I have taken Ortho Tri Cyclen and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I thought I was having bad side effects emotionally but realized that it wasn't the pill. I also took Yasmin, which wasn't bad but at that point, I didn't want to be on the pill anymore. I did take one pill that made me gain almost 10 pounds in 3 weeks- Alesse.

you can't skip your period on OTC low right? Because, of course, im due the week of my wedding and honeymoon and would like not to be!
I tried and it only half-worked. But, I'm probably the exception, as you can see from the number of pills I've taken over the years.
It half worked for me too...just don't wait for the last minute to skip if you;re planning on doing so

Re: Spinoff to BCPs
If you want to skip your period and you are taking a triphasic pill such as orthotricyclen, you cannot just start a new pack and skip it. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it wont, and other times you wont get your period but still have spotting. If you have an important even such as a wedding or vacation and are on triphasic pills, this is the way that the dr's suggest you skip your period. Get an extra pack of pills, you can get a sample from the dr if you ask. After the last week of active pills, instead of taking the placebo pills, open up the new pack and just take the last week of pills. When you are done with that, take the placebo pills as usual and throw the pack away.
If your pills are monophasic with the same amount of hormone each month, or if you use nuvaring or the patch, you can just add a new patch or insert a new ring instead of having a hormone free week.

I've been on Estrostep for 7 years and have had no problems. I'm almost positive it's triphasic. I've only skipped AF a handful of times, but I never had any problem just starting a new pack.

I just looked up estrostep online to see what the deal with this pill is, and you are correct, it is a triphasic pill. However, it does say on the website that the estrogen componant changes with each week of pills, but the progesterone is the same in every pill. I am assuming that this is the reason why you can skip your period without a problem. I know that ortho tricyclen varies with both hormones every week and that is why it doesnt work for everyone when they want to skip thier period by just starting a new pack.

Re: Spinoff to BCPs
Ortho Lo--I switched from Ortho Evra (the patch) and actually lost weight when I went over to OTC Lo.
