Spinoff -Male Daycare Workers
For those of you that LOVED the idea...would you ever allow a male to babysit your child in a non-day care situation. Like at your home of theirs...I ask this because there is a post on Craigslsit and its Male babystiiter..Just wondering, I would never!! Sorry to seem sexist but I coulndt be confortable with that!

Never really thought about it or had to deal w/a male care taker. But I would screen, interview, get recommendations, interview a male the same as I would a female. If your comfortable and he is highly recommended... why not?
What about male teacher or a Doctor?
There are female predators too out there too..

There are also many more female teachers, so statistically, it makes sense I think.

There are also many more female teachers, so statistically, it makes sense I think.

this is true, mostly at the elementary level - not the middle and high school; where most incidents occur

I wonder if people's hesitance to use a male care-giver is that people assume a woman has a better "instinct" when it comes to child care?
I haven't come to this road yet but I don't think it will bother me if there are males working at the place I end up choosing for my baby. If I were to do a one-on-one situation at my home? I can't say for sure what I would choose.

I wouldn't have a problem with it at all...but after discussing it with my DH last night, he would, so I guess it would never happen in my house (we would both have to agree 100%)...

You are right but statistically more men than women right? I am not really sure why I feel this way but both Hubby and I agreed with it. But to be honest I wouldnt even trust a female so a male would def. be out! UNless I knew them like family...I have my mom to babysit, if not I would just stay home I think...I just don't trust people...
ETA I would be ok with a center since others are around

OK, male friend, Brother, Father, grandfather ...YES...
Some stranger from the street...NO...
I would ONLY prefer a woman with specific credentials watching my dd in my home. To be honest, I mostly prefer a select few people watching her anyhow...SO I dont think I would do craigslist anyway without knowing something about the person or someone that I know to give me those ref.

I have actually seen CL ads that say..."Im available tonight to babysit".. Once I posted on there years ago and someone called and asked if I could do it TONIGHT!!! Weird, I would never!!

I had a couple of male baby sitters when I was a child. Both were the sons of neighbors, and both were in HS at the time.
The first one is my all time favorite baby sitter. He used to do the King Tut song and dance from Saturday Night Live. I was about 5/6, my sister 2/3 when he baby sat for us.
The second was son of very good friends of my parents. His sister is my age. He watched us all when our parents when somewhere together a few times. He didn't really want to do it-- but we were in 6th grade so we didn't need the same kind-of supervision as when we were younger.
I wouldn't let anyone watch my child- male or female- that I had not screened very carefully first.

Just like with a woman, it would depend on the person. My husband was a "nanny" for lack of a better term, for years. There's nothing shady or creepy or whatever about him. It was a great opportunity for him to make a lot of money while he was saving for college and we are still very close with the family to this day. And he didn't know them from a hole in the wall when he started working for them. I just don't get what's different about a man vs. a woman childcare provider? If the person's shady, they're shady and it doesn't matter their gender.
And not for nothing, but my cousin was molested by her own father, but had great childcare providers, so if you think something's going to happen to your child, then EVERYONE is a risk, not just male babysitters. You never know who could prey on your child, you just need to trust your instincts and acknowledge when there are signs that something's not right. Doesn't matter if it's a man or woman.

Considering the fact that there are a lot of people who would trust my DH with babysitting their children Im going to have to say yes...
But it would really have to be someone that I know....but Im that way regardless of gender.
