Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

With the exception of anything I might think looks dirty or hand me downs, I have no intention on washing new items with tags-but I hear conflicting things either way.

I don't know what size Miss Bean will need and I don't want to rip tags off just to find out that I have no use for the particular garment.

Is anyone else not washing baby clothes or certain items before the baby? My mom will be here as well as MIL and if I really needed things washed, they could do it.

Re: Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

I hear you on the "what size will she be" thing! But, I will def. wash anything that I put on the baby before it goes on. I washed a few 0-3 onesies and outifts that I liked, and then made a "wash pile" for my SIL of NB stuff if my baby is small. I didn;t want to wash everything if we won't need it.

i will wash like onesies , like the plain white ones that go under clothes but i feel like i dont want to wash anything else bc its new and what if i dont get to use it, i could just return it. id rather wash as i go if im going to use it i guess is what ill do. my mother said they never washed anything that was new. also, like towels and wash clothes and stuff i will wash. burp cloths, etc.

Yes, def. I will wash the towels, receiving blankets, blankets that I like. I got a bunch that I am not crazy about so I'm hoping to return them (all without receipts, of course) Chat Icon

I washed sheets yesterday for crib and bassinet :) I doubt that my mother washed anything before hand, either, but I will.

Things like that I am not so concerned about washing. I just want to be able to return things with tags. My mother never washed my stuff either. I hate the way things look after they are washed. Like I said, I can ask my mommy to wash stuff when we come home from the hospital and I know her size.

I washed everything for Jack.

I washed nothing for Tyler (total second baby syndrome LOL)

I did wash sheets for Tyler, and maybe some white onesies. That's all. I personally don't think you need to go crazy - you don't even know what size she'll be. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

I wash everything obsessively simply because my mom does production and ordering for a very large clothing company and told me to do it! She says that when things come into their factories, they are not always as clean as we would like...they are shipped on freighter ships and there are often little "friends" on these ships and they leave things behind at times! Gross, but true! Also, so many people touch them before they get to the stores...just food for thought!

Re: Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

I will wash anything that goes on baby, but I'm not going crazy prior to Chat Icon being born. I will wash the white onesies, socks & hats, and a couple of outfits in 0-3 month sizes for when we come home from the hospital. Anything else I need washed in the week after Chat Icon is born DH or my mom will do.

I feel the same way - I don't want a ton of clothes that baby can't wear and not be able to return them.

I only washed sheets etc for both kids and it was fine! My friend's mom is a nurse and said it's just a ploy from dreft to sell more dreft.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And I refuse to buy Dreft!

I washed sheets (they smelled like chemicals), hand me downs, and her coming home outfit, and two more outfits. That is enough for me!

I think you're on the right track - I did wash everything before I put it on DD and I would recommend to anyone that they do the same, at least while they're itty bitty and so sensitive - but there's no need to go crazy and do everything before she gets here.

I washed all towels, sheets, onesies and I think all 0-3 month clothes before she was born. I *still* have outfits long outgrown hanging with the tags on them because I just never got around to putting it on her.

I stopped washing stuff before she wore it around 7 or 8 months, I think.

Re: Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

After my shower I am going to go through everything, and return what I don't like or won't use. Then I will wash some of the stuff to have ready right away. Once I know what size Chat Icon is wearing I will either wash the rest or return whatever I have to. I would never put anything on the baby I didn't wash. It gives me the creeps. I have always been like that even when I buy clothes for myself. You never know who tried it on or touched it, or what is on it. I also have very sensitive skin so this is a big factor also.

eta: I will not buy the dreft. It has fragrance in it. I will use the fragrance free detergent I use on our clothes for the baby.

I washed everything with Rylan and had soooo much that was never worn that couldn't be returned. This time around I only washed what I had stored from Rylan. I didn't wash anything new so I can return if needed.

Thanks! I feel better now! I just did one load, because I had some hand me downs to wash, so I threw in her sheets (they smell like chemicals) and 3 outfits. I think I am done!

I would wash it. Even at 18months I still wash my DD's clothes. There was a special on the news about all the chemicals and stuff on new clothes that occur during processing.

I wouldnt suggest washing anything before you are ready to use it. You never know what will fit etc. Wash a few things like coming home outfit, towels etc before and the rest as you go

So true. I refuse to buy Dreft also. I think I annoyed my MIL when I argued with her about it cause both SIL's used it with their LO's. I was like absolutely not...no way am I spending $20 on a small bottle of detegent. We use Tide for us, so we just started buying the free and clear one that we can ALL use and that will be fine.
Love the smell of Dreft but not for that price.

I don't know....my ex's mother had a childrens clothing line and factory. She was a very clean person, but the factory itself and some of the factory workers....not so much. I even skeeve at putting clothes on myself before washing them.

Re: Spinoff-Is Anyone Not Washing Baby Clothes?

I plan to wash some things to prepare. Some onesies, sleepers, etc. I'm not going to wash all outfits until I see how big he is. I plan to have at least a weeks work of stuff ready to go.
