Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

I mean, something that literally brought you to the diverged roads and you HAD to make a choice, pick a path, and risk falling into the deep abyss of the unknown...

for me - it was definitely breaking up with my boyfriend of almost 6 yrs when I knew that we just would not make it anymore - it was so hard and worse for him, who was very happy with the status quo

Now, its me leaving a job I was good and comfortable at for a new job that will give me more opportunities to learn and grow.....

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Staying in NY 15 years ago. (which I still sort of question).

Leaving a very profitable but exhausting job to go back to school.

Leaving Grad school halfway through my Masters. I kick myself everyday for it, espically bc I had a full ride.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Leaving a job that I was very comfortable at but was draining the life out of me due to the commute. I took a chance, got a new job which I despised, but it eventually led me to where I am now and I am thankful for it.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

for me, it was going away to college- eventhough i only went 2 hours away. My family was very dependant on me, and eventhough i felt so guilty leaving, if i didn't get out then i dont know when i would have.

the other one was when i changed jobs a few years ago. It was a huge paycut at first, and right before our wedding (which we were payign for ourselves).. it was the best decision i could have made. Within 6 months, i was above where i had been and it led me to go back to school for Nursing.

So, all in all- i think the greatest risks really have proven to produce the greatest rewards. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

1. Leaving a career for a very different one that I had no background or experience in.

2. Moving across the country without even a job lined up in order to try and give a relationship a shot (he became my DH, so it worked out well, but at the time I didn't know how it would go).

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

deciding to marry my husband.

we were broken up. I was thinking of leaving NY.

he showed up on day, asking if we could give it another go.

after much inner debate, I said yes.

the jury is still out on whether it was a good decision Chat Icon Chat Icon

but I love him so.

other adventures may have awaited me...but I think had I left I'd still be dreamin bout those dreamy eyes.

Blindly moving from Florida to Texas with my "boyfriend" turned husband. Chat Icon It was a big move because I was moving away from all of my friends and family. The only person I knew here in Texas was him and if things hadn't worked out, it could have been a huge mess for me.

When I got pregnant with my son... I almost decided not to have him.

I had a promising career in television and while I look back and wonder how far I'd be... I can't imagine not having my little best friend here with me..

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

moving back to NY --- i was partying like crazy in my late teens, early 20's in south carolina----was single and realized that my life was going nowhere but down the tubes. i met my DH on a visit to NY to see my family......and i had to make a choice--stay in my party life style in south carolina or take a chance and start over back in NY.

more than 6 years later---i dropped the party life....have a wonderful husband....and a great life

i'm actually about to take one soon. right now, i'm a speech therapist in a school, and found out yesterday that they are not going to offer me a position for next year Chat Icon
so, instead of looking for a job in another school system ( a setting where i'm familiar and comfortable), i'm going to take a chance and try out a different setting- Early intervention, nursing home, adult rehab... not sure yet.
its a chance i'm kind of being forced to take, but i think it might be a good one for me....

This is almost EXACTLY what I was going to write.. but it was 10 years. Hardest thing I've ever done and biggest decision.. but VERY worth it because I wouldn't be 1% as happy as I am now with my DH!

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Moving to LI having never set foot in New York before.

I saw Hofstra online, applied to the Master's program, got accepted and decided to go all over the phone.

I needed a catalyst to get me out of a bad situation and that did it.

Met DH at school. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Several huge steps in my life:

- Move to the US from overseas to marry someone

- leave that same person years later after a VERY unhappy, mentally abusive, self-centered marriage. This decision was actually much harder for me than moving thousands of miles away from the country I was born and left my family. It was the final acceptance of the failure of the relationship.

- Another huge step was leaving the EX and the State we lived in to go to NY not knowing anybody and being on my own for the 1st time in my life.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Starting my own business in 2006...in an industry that many try, but not too many succeed in.

Leaving my corporate financial high-paying job in 2007....I worked 10+ years to get where I wanted and then dropped it like a dime.

It was an adjustment, but it's the best decision I've ever made, and it was a HUGE change.

Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

Accepting an out of the country internship and then not coming home when i completed it. I can remember being out shopping with my friends thinking I should be on a plane ride back to NY right now but instead i am going to stay here and do who knows what. It was such an exciting feeling.

My parents were pressuring me to come home but I stayed and was able to support myself. It was an incredible feeling for me to be responsible for my house, car (my dad not asking did you get an oil change every night at dinner) and job. When I was home I was responsible for these things but I still had the safety net of my parents. I learned so much being on own and travelling around. I met some of my best friends and my DH. Re: Spinoff from my own post - when did you take a HUGE chance?

leaving a relationship that on most fronts, was wonderful, but one that i saw had the potential to become at the very least, controlling, and at the very worst, abusive.

it was the hardest thing i ever did but if i hadn't i never would have met my husband Chat Icon

My choice to study abroad in Rome. It was the most amazing/horrible time of my life. I saw amazing sights and I will never forget it. However, I cried every day and missed my family and DH terribly. I learned a lot about myself and I learned that I just can't be away from the people I love.

Probably Spring 1999...I was waiting for my then boyfriend to get his shizzle together and move to NY, but on a complete whim I thought...nah, I could do with a change, and about 4 months later we were married and bought a house here in the Northwest of the UK. Best decision I ever made. Wouldn't change a thing about it. I love love love it here!!!
