Spinoff: Did you used to have a beeper?
I did. And I used to change the case to be all different colors. And I made sure to have the clip hanging out of my pocket. Bc it was cool...
Then I upgraded and got a alpha-numeric beeper where peopel could call an 800 # and leave a message for me and it would come across the screen.
My very first message was from SOmething about mary : Have you seen my baseball.

nope.
i just never saw the reason for one... not to mention my parents were convinced the only people who had them were doctors and drug dealers!!

My mom and dad bought my brother and I ones for Christmas one year. We were both so excited. I use to clip mine to the frame of my day bed on vibrate in case anyone beeped me messages during the night.  I loved that stupid thing.

Yup. DW and I had a code system, too. She would put the phone# of where she was, and numbers 1-9 of how urgent it was.
555-55551 meant "I miss you. Call me if you have a minute"
555-55559999999999 meant "I don't care if you're talking to the President. CALL NOW!!!!"

Yup. My ex (the one right before DH) bought it for me to keep tabs on me . Funny thing, DH was the only one to beep me!

I never had one, but DH still has to carry one when he is on call, he looks like such a geek with a beeper and a cell phone on his belt

Yes. I had a beeper first and then I got a cell phone. I had both for awhile - my cell phone plan only had like 20 minutes. and so someone would beep me first and I would decide whether or not it was worth using any of my 20 minutes on that person.

We had a whole slew of them, each number represented how many letters were in the word.

My mom gave me one when I was in 11th grade because I was hardly home with school, sports and work. I lived with my dad and no one at my dad's house was good at giving me messages when my mom called. She got frustrated and gave me a beeper.

yes!
my parents used the drug dealer/doctor line too so my brother and sister got together and bought me one!
it was awesome, i had stickers all over it and DH and I would talk in codes
one night i beeped him so many times he threw his into the ocean 
my friends used to write notes to each other in beeper language!
my code was 1221 ( my birthday )

I had one! I was just talking about this a few weeks ago.
I was telling a younger girl what it was like before texting and how we would write words out with numbers and you would have to sit there with a pen and paper to "decode" the message!

Yes, and I had the beeper chain hanging from it too..cause I was just that cool.
Dh used to page me like 30 times a day, and I would never call back because I didnt like him..the one time I did call back his mom answered and I hung up on her....who would have though we would be here now

i had one but it took a lot of convincing. my parents swore the only people who had them were drug dealers.
