Spinoff: anyone switch to toddler bed early?

Long story short... My almost 16 month old DS HATES his crib. He screams bloody murder any time we try to put him in it. He could be out cold and the second he goes down, he flips out. We tried CIO even though I really didn't want to (just a personal preference but I have nothing against it). Regardless, it failed miserably. He is not perfect in bed with us either as he tosses and turns frantically all night but Its better than screaming all night. I am at a loss and I am wondering if attempting a toddler bed will help or hurt. Would love to hear others experiences!

I switched my DS into a toddler bed at 18 months, because of the same reason. He would scream and make himself sick. He was great with the transition and loves his bed, but I have to lay in there with him until he falls asleep and at first he would sleep through the night in his bed, but a few weeks ago he started roaming into our bed in the middle of the night, so he falls asleep in our bed and then I put him back into his bed. It's definitely better then him screaming and literally making himself sick. I'm glad we did it.

i switched my DS around 16 months...he hated his crib, he was so much happier in his toddler bed, he can get in and out himself

I was much happier with this even if he was getting up more then to listen to him scream, after a couple weeks he barely got up at all

We switched ds1 at 13 months. He hated his crib and wasn't STN still. We has just moved and I thought he was ready.
I let him CIO for a week and he has STN and been in a bed since

we switched to toddler bed around 13 months (she would not go in her crib) and then got her a full sized bed - which is on the floor without a box spring - around 16 months - we co-sleep at times so having a big bed in her room has been nice
