No, I don't give them a gift for the holidays. Usually we have a big luncheon tho, and they're welcome to enjoy all the foods that we bring in.
They give us a GC to a restaurant in addition to our bonus.

I usually get him a bottle of Jack (his drink of choice).
He gives me the standard x-mas bonus which in theory is on behalf of the company...not him.

I'm not really sure.. this will be my first holiday season at this job... so we'll see... I may just make cookies and put them in nice Christmas tins and give them to the executives. As for my boss, I have no clue... he makes more money than I would ever know what to do with... what do get something like that?!

We do exchange Christmas gifts; and everyone in the office does a secret santa, so we have that as well.
We are a very close office though. For my wedding they got me an engagement gift all together and then the week before my wedding threw me a surprise jack and jill bridal shower and everyone gave me a gift, and they all came to my wedding as well. We do this all the time though (babies, bridal showers, birthdays, holidays, etc). We are 18 people in the office, but very close. I'm very lucky to be here with them!

no, my boss gives me a small gift as a thank you. i also get a bonus from the company. in turn, i buy gifts for those that help me out during the year.

at my first job, i never got my boss anything and didn't plan on buying anything for my last boss until she caught me off-guard with a small gift. it wasn't much but i felt bad...all of her supervisees then chipped in for a spa certificate.
for my boss now, i think i'm going to buy a gift certificate for a mani/pedi and keep it in my desk. if she gives me something, i'll have it ready to whip out and if she doesn't, i'll use it.

Definitely not (no giving or receiving in the workplace for me)! When I was an executive assistant I got a very generous gift card to Saks, but those were the old days.

The first year here we did - 4 of us chipped in for a restaurant GC. Then, The next year, the 2 women who had been here had left and I wasn't about to initiate it with the new people, so no. Then last year, this new woman started and felt we should give to both partners (one of the original 4 had become a partner) so we got them each a wine basket.
If it was up to me, and quite frankly, I would bet the partners too, we wouldn't do anything. It just feels awkward to me.
We get a bonus from the company. And I think a pointsettia plant sometimes too.

I don't get my direct boss a gift. His wife bakes cookies for the dept and that is usually our gift. I think last year we each got a bottle wine instead. Everyone chips in for a gift for the big boss though (my boss's boss).

This is the same arrangement in my office. Here is my question....do you feel like that is not really a "gift" since it is being paid for by the company?When I buy a gift, it is out of my own pocket. Any thoughts?
