OMG yes. That house is 2 blocks away from where my mom lives. All the other houses in the area are starting to do the same thing
That's too bad cause I want one! The problem with them is that you are LITERALLY right on top of your neighbors. My MIL just had a McMansion go up next door to her & the people can now look into her bedroom window from their bathroom window (which is huge b/c it is over a "garden tub"). No privacy!

think of near the intersection of jericho turnpike and rt 107
they are jamming tons of huge houses on small lots - no backyard etc
that is a prime example
I used to work right next those. NO TREES whatsoever. So freaking close too.

I dont really think of McMansions as the houses that go up that dont fit in with the rest of the neighborhood because they are huge and obnoxious.
I think of McMansion's as the cookie cutter neighborhoods of 4000+ square foot homes that all look exactly alike. The fact that they are huge and all look the same is what makes it a McMansion to me. There arent that many of these developments on LI because there isnt enough land, though there are a few.

I would NOT like that AT ALL. Its really bad. My BIL took a copy of his butt & enlarged it & covered his window with it. Now they see his butt if they try to look in his window.
(BTW they caught them peeking through the blinds trying to look in my ILs bedrooms more than once )

Here's one in Levittown. Priced to sell at 949,000
I do like McMansions but I would like them better if they were somewhere that they fit in!

I consider both to be McMansions - the ones that are squeezed into tiny lots and flanked by small homes...and the ones that are like "little boxes on the hillside" - no character, totally cookie cutter neighborhood.

I think that is the normal defination across the country- but since they really can't build them here- NY has there own defination

I was wondering if these qualified. There are a few housing developments by me (same developer) with huge houses (approx. 4000 sq. ft.) each on about 1 acre of land. The houses are not exactly the same, but they definitely have a similar feel. They're definitely big, but to me they don't look that ridiculous on the outside.
I prefer those to some of the houses I've seen on LI where there is almost no lawn b/c the house is too big for the property.
