Sort of CIO Spin-off - any Weissbluth moms?
We've been chosen to work with Dr. Weissbluth as part of a seminar being held at the 92nd St. Y. I'm super excited to be getting his personal advice and coaching, but obviously he wants us to basically let my daughter CIO via a graduated extinction method (she's 10 months old). The worst part is his mandated bedtime for her at 5:30 pm which is even before my husband and I get home from work. This means the nanny would have to put her to bed and we wouldn't see her until the next morning.
Has anyone done this method with success? And the super early bedtime?? It would only be temporary, for 3-4 weeks until she replenished her sleep debt, but still...ugh.
TIA!

Re: Sort of CIO Spin-off - any Weissbluth moms?
I have his book, but I've only read tiny bits and pieces of it. I have to say, though, the methods of his that I've followed (napping every 2 hours, graduated extinction CIO - which I've been attributing to Ferber (?)) have worked.
When we decided to have DD do CIO at 5 months - yes we did it early, but it was the best thing we ever did - she set her own bedtime at 6 p.m. Our bedtime routine starts at 5:30 - her body clock set that time, not us. At first, she woke up super early - between 5 and 6 a.m. But it was still almost 12 hours at night. Now, she sleeps until 8.
Her naps are after about 2.5 hours of being awake now. She takes two naps a day of at least 1.5 hours each. Some days she skips them, and we have "hiccups" with bedtime every now and again, but honestly his methods work GREAT for us.
ETA: I think it's fantastic that you get to work with him. You can always tailor his methods to fit your own needs. I hope it works out for you!

I swear by that book so I think it's awesome you're getting to work with him. Not sure how bad your child's sleep problems are but we didnt have to do such an early bedtime. I think the earliest we may have done was 6:30pm but I feel like that was for a short time and then it was always 7-7:30pm bedtime.

I also love Dr Weissbluth--his book helped me so much with my first and I am reading it again with my little one! We did have to do a super early bed time with my older son when he was little, but it got moved back until 7pm once he started sleeping better. GL!

Hate to jump on the post but I read his book constantly and I just don't see how to put a baby down for bedtime when he stil has to do feedings? isn't it still considered a nap at that point? KWIM/

Basically: early bedtime structured naps shortly after wake-up, and earlier in the day extinction method for bedtime (i.e. CIO) no (or one if necessary) mid-night feedings

I guess you just space them out beginning earlier in the day. He said she'd wake for the day probably around 5:30/6:30 am so feeding should start shortly thereafter. He does allow for one feeding throughout the night to compensate for the earlier bedtime though.

How lucky you are to be working with him!!!!!!!! Don't be scared of the early bedtime. Before the daulight savings time changed he was sleeping religiously at 6 pm and some days even 5:45!!!
It can work out I totally believe in this man, my son is an awesome sleeper because I followed his methods!!!
