Sooo peeved about something that happened at my wedding rehearsal
At my rehearsal in a Catholic Church, my younger (22) sister asked the coordinator if it was OK to bring her 2 month old to the ceremony in his stroller.
Before saying anything else, the woman asked if my sister was married
FTR, my sister IS married.
But it was rude and completely out of line to ask that right off the bat! Rude, innapropriate and unacceptable!
I only found out last night. There were a few other issues with the coordinator and I'm wondering if I should call and make mention of these issues?

sorry but I am not surprised at all
this is the catholic church we are talking about
I have heard of some not baptizing babies if the parents aren't married
and yes I am catholic

I get what you're saying but that does not excuse the fact that it was blatantly rude of the woman to say it.

that may be true but what does it have to do with the girl bringing a stroller into the church...
it wasnt like she was asking to have her child baptized there or get married there!

I didn't say it did...that's why I don't go to church b/c I don't agree with practices like this
I don't think this was the first time this was asked and it wont be the last

The child wasn't asking for a ceromony at the church
They were asking if the child could be on the premises. To ask any questions in this situation is out of line and they should be told to mind their f@@king business.

ITA. I am not suprised at all. What I had to go threw to find a Church that would marry DH & I because DH never received Confirmation was absured. The Chuch is always saying how they welcome people our age back to the Church meanwhile they made it virtually impossible for us to get married.

it definitely depends on the church and the pastors there. my church was amazingly welcoming and accomodating.

That I can agree with.
Our priest told me I was "not yet a child of the Lord" because I had only been baptized and didn't make the other sacraments.

But to be fair, marriage is one of the 7 sacraments and in order to be married in a Catholic church, you should have recieved your sacraments. There is a traditional order to them. I don't think it is the fault of the church, but rather Dh's (parents or self) who did not think it was important enough to complete the scaraments (that was an option before you were to be married) If the other sacraments weren't important, why was getting married in a Catholic church important?

In regards to this issue, that was just plain stupidity! One has nothing to do with the other!

I can only speak for myself, but getting married in the church was very important to my DH. I am actually starting the RCIA program to continue my sacraments.
I don't think its fair to judger her DH's parents for not thinking the other sacraments were important. In my family's case, my parents were brought up strictly Catholic and they wanted to baptize us but also allow us the freedom to explore religion and spirituality on our own.

Re: Sooo peeved about something that happened at my wedding rehearsal
that lady was was rude- asking your sister that was completely inappropriate
but for the other people on this thread- why is it necessary to turn this into a catholic church bashing sorry but some of your stories just have no place here- yes the catholic church has rules if you want to get married there- just like I imagine a temple would if you wanted to get married there- but there are a lot of good priests that go out of their way to help- you cant blame an entire religion for how you were treated by one person

I'm not surprised by it either... but that doesn't make it any less rude or judgemental. There was no need for that question.
And really... if the parents weren't married, does that mean the baby wouldn't be allowed in the church?? What's the point of the question??

ITA that the lady was rude, no doubt and I totally agree with you about the RC Church bashing.
When I got married, we got married at the hall. At the time I was not drawn to the Church for my ceremony. Four years later I got pregnant. I decided I wanted to start going back to Church. I went to confession but the priest could not grant me absolution because I was, according to the Church, living in sin as my marriage was not recognized by the Church. I did not get mad at the Church - it's their rule. I could have walked away but since it was important to me, I got a second marriage license and had a private ceremony with our parents and priest and made the sacrament. If it was important enough to me to be married in the Catholic Church, I had to follow the guidelines. Plain and simple.
