It depends on who we're with. DH and I are fine splitting it, but then we have some friends who sit there figuring out exactly what they owe.

When we go out to dinner DH just throws money at the check. We usually end up paying alot more than our fair share or picking up the entire check because of that. Most of the time we are more than happy to do it...but the gesture is rarely, if ever, returned.

try to split the check but normally end up putting more money in most of the time because of tip or drinks............................it drives me nuts when people pick item by item over the check!

Yikes, I guess I have cheap friends  . They always tally. I could care less either way. In fact, it would be a lot easier to split.

It depends on how many people we go out with. If it's just 4-6 of us we split. If it's a crowd, we itemize.
We'll always offer to pay more though if we had drinks and the others didn't.

We always split the check and I don't think any of my friends have ever tried to tally it up. It would make me feel umcomfortable going out to dinner with them again. JMO.
My sister and brother-in-law do this though. I've learned to accept it with them because they are family and they are very cost saving on everything (even though they are loaded). Me and DH just don't drink when we go out with them so we usually wind up splitting it evenly.
ETA - I go out with an aunt and cousin once a month for a dinner to try out new restaurants and we both get drinks. We usually each pick up every other meal and have had no issues.
