either a personal day or vaca day. There are always people that will practically kill themselves to get in no matter how the weather is. if more ppl woudl stay home the manager would probably just give us the day

Re: Snow spinoff...missing work
i learned my lesson at one of my past jobs. i called in to say i would not be in because my car did a 360 and I went back home. i was docked for the day because I was not sick and I did not have authorization for a personal day. From that day forth I always say I'm sick and when I hang up I add "of the snow". My last job actually rewarded those who came in by giving them an extra vacation day (and they usually sent you home early too).

We are forced to get into work before the snow hits. If we don't, there is hell to pay.

Re: Snow spinoff...missing work
My old office closed today, my new office is open (same company). I'm out at the moment, but if I were in, I would have had to take a sick or vaca day today. Everyone else is in, but I have back and ankle problems and I am NOT going to risk slipping in the snow. Too effing bad. I'm sure my boss and co-woprkers would not be happy, but it's ridiculous to expect people to commute in a blizzard

Re: Snow spinoff...missing work
When I worked in an office the official policy was that you had to use a personal day if you called in for a snow day.
There was a weird twist, IF the office closed and you attempted to come to work you got the day off with pay, if you didn't attempt to come in you have to take a personal day.

Re: Snow spinoff...missing work
Usually it's left up to us if we feel uncomfortable coming in we're supposed to make up the time (during tax season - which makes it hard b/c your usually working extra hours to begin with.) But yesterday my boss basically told us all we should take work home because though it was supposed to not be so bad getting in, going home would be a problem. He was in though!

Re: Snow spinoff...missing work
i went in. i asked to leave by 1 since i commute by bus. they said it was not a problem but they would need to treat it as a 1/2 day. then i found out 2 other departments let there staff go around the same time that i left
