Sleepy Newborn

I may kick myself for jinxing this but thought I would ask. DS is 1.5 weeks old and the easiest baby. He is breastfed on demand and eating at least every 2-3 hours during the day. I wake him to eat by 3 hours if needed. At night he is going as long as 6 hours before I wske him to eat. he was 9 lbs 2 oz at birth and had regained his weight. He had a few cranky times yesterday but is mostly very relaxed when awake. He has spit up like once and making a lot of dirty diapers.

DD was a bit extreme never sleeping. She would be up cranky most of the night and had colic. Sometimes only actually sleeping 30-45 mins between feedings. So hard to compare.

We have doc appt tomorrow so I will ask. I realize he is so young this could all change at any moment.

Am I lucky or should I be worried?

I don't think you can count on anything when it comes to newborns. lol For now, enjoy the "routine" and just realize that it can change at any time.

You can't tell at that age. My girls slept feeding to feeding til 3 mo old and dropped one night feeding at 7 weeks, but around 6 weeks, developed a witching hour. It was around 6pm and they were cranky and nothing consoled them. At 3 weeks my DD who ate like a champ developed a milk protein allergy and reflux and started arching when feeding and spitting up. They change as they develop. One thing I've found is that once you think "oh great we finally have a nice routine going", they go and change it up on you. lol At least mine did with eating and sleeping. They still do it from time to time at 2.5.

DD was like that. A sleeper from the very beginning. And now at 14m, she's still a sleeper, for the most part. More so at night.

My son was the same way. Amazing.

The first night in the hospital, I'll never forget it, I wrapped him all up in his swaddle and put him in that plastic bassinet they have, on wheels. I wheeled him right next to my hospital bed. And there I was: Waiting. Wondering. Worried. He's going to wake up at ANY moment and need me. HOURS went by. I buzzed the nurse. I said, he is not waking up. She looked at me like I was crazy and said, ENJOY IT. I still stayed up: Waiting. Wondering. Worrying. I didn't sleep the entire first night in the hospital, and not because of the baby

When we went home it was the same thing -- for three whole days. Until finally I realized that he was an amazing sleeper and I needed to calm down and enjoy it.

That first night in the hospital he slept over eight hours. I fed him during the day, from day one, every 2-3 hours like clockwork and as much as he wanted, as long as he gave me a hearty burp he got fed. Formula, but still.

He is now 20 months old and sleeps from 6:45-7pm until 7-7:15am every single night. And he naps about 2-2.5 hours a day.

I just thank Jesus.

I wouldn't say there is anything to worry about... I just wouldn't put much stock in what he's doing now, but enjoy it! DS has been a great sleeper since the beginning, he was 4 weeks early and tiny so I had to wake him in the night to feed him when he would sleep longer. Now he's 6 months and sleeps great through the night, naps like a champ and is doing amazing.

we thought this until 6 weeks then BAM no sleep for 3 weeks. then 3 days of good sleep... then TBD.

Thanks! I know it's too early to make any assumptions about the future. Just so different from DD I start to think what am I doing wrong. More likely, what did I do to her, lol. Time will tell I guess.

DD slept all the time at that age and so does DS (now 10 weeks old)

My 3rd was 9lbs 6oz at birth and was just like this. An amazing sleeper since birth! I couldn't believe it because my twins were awful sleepers. Enjoy it!!!

My DD did 6 hour stretches at 2-3 weeks old. But she also had fussy time for hours and hours before conking out for the night.

She outgrew the fussiness at 8 weeks and then started doing 8-9 hours by 3 months.
