skipping the toddler bed?

I have the opportunity to get my hands on a really pretty twin bed w/ dresser & mirror from Haverty's for pretty darn cheap.....

It's a twin and we were considering going from crib to twin w/bed rails and not wasting $$ on toddler bed.

Good Idea? Bad idea?

It's natural wood with a very light floral swag over the knobs of the top drawer, on the headboard, and at the top of the mirror.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

I think it is fine to go straight to a twin bed. In fact, none of my nieces or nephews had a toddler bed they all went straight to the twin bed. Definitely get it.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

I went straight to a twin bed- my parents put up these protectors with netting to stop us from rolling out for a year or 2

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

My niece went straight to a full-sized bed. It seems more economical than purchasing a toddler bed.

I have a friend whose daughter went from a crib to a queen size bed. No problems, but she looks so tiny in that big bed. Chat Icon It's hard to find her amongst the pile of stuffed animals! Chat Icon I would buy the twin bed.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

We didn't put Caiden in a toddler bed. He went right into a twin race car bed. The race car part of the bed is a little higher than the bed so we didn't have to worry about him falling out. Though since he moves A LOT while he sleeps he's managed to move down to the other side of the bed where the front of the car slopes down and has slid out of bed and has woken up. We put him in a twin bed instead because he's a big boy and I didn't want to waste the money on a toddler bed since he probably would of used it for only a few months. I'm glad we did the twin bed. I'd go for it! Chat Icon

I think its fine. My SIL had the convertible crib and went straight from the crib to the full size bed. Didn't even waste time on the toddler bed. We may end up doing the same.

I think it will be fine as long as you put the railing up

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

Sounds like a fine idea to me. We're planning on doing the same thing. As long as you have those side guards up so Aly won't fall out it should be fine.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

Toddler beds are such a waste (IMO). They can only be used for a few years. We went straight to a trin bed and use a side guard from SAfety First. We opted for a captain's bed which is lower to the floor than a regular twin. It has 3 huge drawers underneath the bed...excellent for storage. If you'd like to see a pic, I will take one!

Both of my kids went straight to a twin bed at about 20 months. I wasn't wasting money on a toddler bed. I didn't bother with the rails because my niece's leg got caught in hers one night. Instead I used their pillow sham & laid it along side their body. On a rare occasion we here a thud & a cry in the middle of the night. I'd rather hear that over a twisted leg/arm.

I think it's fine too. My friend put her son straight into a twin bed. Also, I don't think I ever had a toddler bed.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

we'll probably go straight to a twin since if we ttc again this fall the new baby will get Jenna's crib and Jenna will just get a twin bed to grow into.

Re: skipping the toddler bed?

Shana, we sort of "skipped" the toddler bed too. She has a convertible crib/toddler/twin but she rarely, if ever sleeps in there. We find her sleeping on the couch, or most of the times in our bed. I've given up trying to correct her because she knows how to manipulate the locks on our bedroom doorChat Icon

Went right from crib to twin bed. They loved being in a "big girl" bed.
