Specifically, how did you handle the cable box, dvd, etc.!

do you have any closets or cabinets near by?
you need an ir extender kit and electrician to add electric above the fireplace

we took the cables and gathered them neatly, tied them and laid them on the "mantle". The speakers for the surround dsound and what not cover them for the most part. The cabinet on the left has all the components.
Sorry, it's the only pic I could find, it's a Plasma and it is HEAVY!

We would like to do this too. We have a 50 inch flat screen and it is very heavy. We are concerned about having it mounted properly as well as how it will withstand the heat more than what will happen with the cables. Any thoughts?

This is ours...
It was very inexpensive to do... We had an electrician come in and install an outlet above the FP. I also had him run a cable wire at the same time.
I then drilled a small hole in my floor up from the basement to the cable box (so the cable wire goes from the TV down to the basement and then back up through the floor to the cable box in the cabinet (to the right of the FP, sorry not in the pic). The cable wire then connects behind the cabinet to the regular cable outlet in the wall.
We bought the mount in BJs and DH and a friend installed it in an afternoon.
We haven't had any issues with heat from the FP, but ours is gas. HTH! Image Attachment(s):
