oh ok. Typically the rule of thumb is to stay smaller than the mantel. I believe most mantels are between 50-72 inches.

not true..your tv size is dependent of the room size and viewing distance.

the focus of the room is already lost as the your eye will fight the tv and fireplace for attention.

She asked about installing the tv above a fireplace not about the viewing distance. Your right about the viewing distance but I was addressing her question.

Her question was size. You give a good suggestion to have the display smaller then the fireplace. I believe the display should be based on the room size and distance being viewed..

we both answer address her question differently.
