Re: Should Prostitution Be Legalized?

I don't think it sends anymore of a dangerous message then porn, alcohol, smoking. All of which are legal because the government makes money off of these industries.
I don't think that anyone is saying legalization would solve the problem completely. I do think that if I were a prostitute I would rather work in an enviorment that helped protect me instead of on the streets and if I was a "john" I would rather go to a place where I knew the woman were healthy.
Exactly - could not agree more.

I understand what you're saying but I think we have to draw the line somewhere. And yes, deciding where that line should be drawn can be a difficult thing to do. But there is a difference between freedom of speech and expression which is what some people would associate with porn (photography & movies are a form of speech/expression, and some would even call it art) and prostitution.
Also, I personally don't put prostitution and drugs/alcohol/smoking in the same moral category when it comes to legalization.

I understand and I respect your opinion. For me, I just think that alcohol, drugs and tabacco kill more people each year then prostitution and all are legal.
Prostitution isn't going away. I guess I just think that any steps to try and regulate it are worth a shot. It seems to be pretty successful in the areas around the world that do it.

Re: Should Prostitution Be Legalized?
I agree with those who say it should be legalized. Saying it is wrong or an inappopriate way to make a living is a moral issue. You, me, and the U.S. government have no right to enforce what we think is moral or immoral on others. Especially something like prostitution, which hurts no one. If someone wants to have sex for money, then thats her (or his) perrogative. And if someone wants to pay for it, well then thats his (or hers) choice as well. Putting regulations on prostitution would slow the spread of many STD's. It would make it safer for those who do chose to participate in one way or another. Yes, there would be those who still operate illegaly, but that goes for anything.

Re: Should Prostitution Be Legalized?
ya know what, I may too relaxed in my views, but part of me just DOESNT care.... Go ahead, make it legal....PEople are gonna do it anyway , where they can and I do not think that making something legal makes it so much more prevelant...thats a myth IMO.
And It doesnt really affect me all that much.
I am tired of judging this one on this , and that one on that.
I dont want a society of anarchy either, but I think Im more concerned about other issues.
I may sound naive, Im really not, This is just one of those things that doesnt bother me.
