should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
DS is going to be 6 months next Tuesday.
He can sit on his own, unsupported for about 5-10 mins and then tumbles over. Should he be sitting unsupported for longer stretches of time by now?
He rolls from his back to his stomach and vice versa like a pro these days. He even sleeps usually on his side but he has NO interest in crawling at all. He did the army crawl months ago but has since stopped.
As far as babbling there is no real babbling. No 1-syllable sounds (ga, ma, da, etc) let alone 2 syllables. (gaga, mama, dada, baba, etc). He squeals and raspberries a lot.
I feel like he is falling behind because everyone is like "oh he doesn't do THAT yet?"

He sounds normal to me. DD is only 5 months but I think at just 6 mos not doing any crawling or any sounds at all besides raspberries and squealing is normal.

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
Sounds totally normal to me. I think the next month or two will be months of big changes. All of a sudden at almost 7 months my DS was crawling his own "inchworm" verssion. Just keep talking to DS and I'm sure the verbal aspects will come soon too. I always ask my dr for the next months milestones so I keep them in mind and also try not to get myself too worried.

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
Do you have the "what to expect" book? I use that as a general guideline.
Our LOs are around the same age. As far as the babbling goes - I would not worry at all. Toward the end of 6 months into 7 months or so, we should start seeing some of that! Loey isn't babbling either (and I'm an SLP!)
As far as crawling, I honestly think (and of course I am biased because he's my own baby) that Loey is really advanced when it comes to that... I would not expect him to be crawling yet!

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
DS is now 8mo today and started sitting up unsupported well about 7mo. he would sit up and then tip over..LOL.
He has been babbling alot and can make ba or da sounds, which I'd say probably started at 6mo.
I wouldnt worry too much. every baby does things at their own pace.
DS isnt crawling..he does scootch around somehow on his belly and when he is sitting up he leans over and tries to get into crawl position but he hasnt figured out getting over his left leg yet..LOL.

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
6 months is still pretty young for all of that.
DD could sit supported at 6 months, but it wasn't until she was just past 7 months that I would be comfortable sitting her down and walking away.
babbling, eh... she babbled, but mostly squealed. It was around 5-6 months that she was facinated by the noise she made when she squealed/screamed. No real babbling. Again, 6 months is pretty young for that.
Crrawling - DD didn't army crawl until she was almost 9 months old and didn't full on crawl until about a week or two before her first birthday.

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
It sounds to me like he's fine. My DD didn't crawl until she was about 8 months, but she was walking just before a year.
As for the babbling, I also think he sounds fine. I think the squealing and raspberries are precursors to speech...I think he is figuring out what his mouth, lips, tongue, etc. can do. I just recently had my DD evaluated by EI for speech...she is 13 months old and doesn't babble or coo or anything...doesn't even point to what she wants for answer to her name. The report came back that her receptive speech is that of an 8 month old and her expressive speech is that of a 7 month old. So based on what your DS is doing at 6 months, I don't think he is behind at all because if my DD is not doing anything right now and they say it is behavior of a 7-8 month old, he is still doing more than what is expected for the next few months. Am I even making sense? I hope so.
I do agree with PP, I think in the next few months you are going to see him make strides in leaps and bounds! Enjoy it all!!

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
I wouldn't be worried at all about any of that.
DD sat early, before 5 months, but I honestly couldn't leave her without a pillow or something behind her till she was about 8 months. Like your LO she could sit long stretches, but she would always end up toppling over eventually. Around 8 months she just stopped toppling. So while she sat early she wasn't sturdy for a loooong time.
DD didn't start army crawling till 8.5 months and regular crawling till 9.5. While I was waiting for it to happen I was thinking "oh my gosh shes so late with it" now I laugh because I realize she wasn't late at all, they just do it when they are ready.
She babbled somewhat early (or on time) before she was 6 months, but even today her "words" are limited... Still doesn't say mama only says ma... dada and baba are most likely without intention
My main point is that there is a HUGE range of normal, and while you may start thinking "should I be concerned" often times its just to early to be worried!

Re: should I be concerned? crawling/sitting/babbling question
DS is 6 months. He can sit for a minute or two if he's entertained with a toy and then he falls - he'd much rather move around on his tummy.
He doesn't crawl or army crawl yet but, he rolls and he can turn himself around when he's on his belly.
In his head, I can tell he's ready to move and is going to give me a run for my money - he's constantly squirming out of my arms like he is ready to go somewhere.
As for babbling - he's constantly making noises - squealing, raspberries and he just started saying da-da-da. He's also realizing he can do it louder now.
