Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
I don't normally think about theses things, I figure babies do things at their own paces, but I keep seeing babies are crawling at 6,7,8 months, and my 9.5 month olds still aren't crawling. DS scoots- he is very efficient at the army crawl, he gets where he wants to go. DD gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth but then she either moves backwards a little or gives up and rolls around. She always winds up half way under the couch because of the backwards moving, lol. Is this something to be concerned about? When did your DC crawl? They are also not pulling up on anything or cruising/etc.

Nope.
First of all, crawling is not a milestone, a lot of babies skip it.
Christopher didn't crawl til the weekend he turned one.

Re: Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
DD just figured out traditional crawling at 16 months.
She found her own way to get around - she "scoots" on her but instead.
Do they get around any other way?
ETA - DD didn't move around much at that age. She still pretty much stayed where I put her until she was 11 months. She didn't roll over until 12 months either. Ask your ped if you are worried. My ped wasn't.

She doesn't need to crawl, she has a need for speed! Christopher was crawling with her though

Re: Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
DS didn't crawl until he was 10.5 months. Although crawling helps in the development of their equilibrium, there are some children that skip crawling and go straight to walking. Your little ones might crawl for a couple of weeks, quickly move on to cruising and then start walking right away. Or they might crawl for a while. All kids are different, and as long as they are hitting their other developmental milestones, I really wouldn't worry about it. Can we see some more pics of them? They are at such fun age now...sitting up and getting around...it must be adorable to see them play together!

DD didn't crawl until she was 11 months. I thought she was going to skip it entirely. She got around just fine by rolling across the floor.

Honestly, I never thought frankie would crawl forward, ever...then literally one day...he did...it was at 8 months or 8.5 months or so. Crawling isn't necessarily a milestone...my nephew skipped it altogether!!!! He walked by 13 months!

Re: Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
I wouldn't be concerned. Crawling is not considered a developmental milestone. According to my mom, I skipped crawling. DS is 10 months old and only army crawls. He has been doing that for about a month.

I wouldn't be insanely concerned, but I think I would mention it to my ped and see his reaction.. It sounds like they get where they need to be doing other things

yeppers, I agree with this fully. Do you fill out those forms in the Peds office? My Ped asks me all the kinda "milestone" questions.

ITA! Do a search on my old posts.
Jacen started walking a week before he turned 1. He started crawling for the first time at 14 months.
ETA: jacen also didn't start pulling up on anything until 14 months. My kid likes to go against the grain.

Bella barely crawled...she was so lazy. She went from barely rolling over, to crawling, to cruising, and then walking in a span of less than two months. I was more than floored when she started walking at just over 11 months.

DS was army crawling but did not walk until shy of 10 months.
Did you mention it to the PED? They actually asked me if DS was crawling and sitting by himself at his 9 month visit.

Re: Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
My DD is almost 13 months and doesn't crawl......don't think she ever will. The ped was not concerned since *technically* they don't consider it a milestone anymore and because she is standing and trying to walk since 11 months. Not every baby crawls so I wouldn't worry.

DS was a scooter and learned to cruise before learning how to crawl. I wouldn't be too concerned!

Re: Should I be concerned that DC aren't crawling?
They ARE crawling. Just because they are not doing it in the textbook way doesn't mean anythying. As Kate said- it is not even a developmental milestone. I read as long as they are able to move from one place to another and move both sides of their bopdy at once they are fine.
As far as standing up, cruising etc. Do you work with them on this? Declan is very strong and physically has always been ahead of Ronan-he taught himself to stand. But we work with Ronan and he is getting it

DS just started crawling at 11.5 months. He scooted everywhere before that. Don't worry, they will do it in their own time

DS is 9.5 months old and he is not crawling either. He does an army crawl and manages to get wherever he wants. I know there are so many kids who skip crawling.
