Short Luteal Phase
So of course, I am worried. I used OPKs this month to prepare us for starting to try next month. It turns out I am pretty sure I O'ed CD 16-17, with a 28 day cycle. Anyone else have a short LP and had success. I am going to use OPK after AF arrives at the end of this month. I am so scared this is not going to be as easy as it was for my DC.

Re: Short Luteal Phase
i am pretty sure i do too. when i was using OPK's i was getting a + on CD 17 and I have a 26-27 day cycle. we started trying for #2 in dec and still no BFP... it took us about 9 months to get a BFP with DS though so im reallly not surprised its taking long again this time around. i stopped using OPK about 3 months ago bc they were stressing me out too much though. i will wait until Sept and if still no BFP i will look into seeing an RE.
i hope you have better luck than me!!!!!

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I'm in the same exact boat. I started taking 250mgs of b6 to lengthen it and it seemed to extend it a couple of days.

Re: Short Luteal Phase
Thanks for the post! I think i may have a short LP too. What is considered short, mine typically is 10-11 days?
I guess if it happens for a few months for you , then maybe you might want to talk to your doctor. I think I am going to.
Lots of Babydust to all of us ladies with short LP.

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I have a 10-11 day LP as well and got pregnant on my 2nd cycle. I think you need to worry if its less than 10 days, but usually implantation occurs around 6-7DPO.

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I have read 10 days and less is considered short and may interfere with conception. I started taking 100mg of B6 ,should I be taking more??
Thanks Michelle, I like to hear success stories.

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I do! I noticed it when I charted when getting PG with DD 3 years ago. I didn't think anything of it then bc I got pregnant, so there's definitely hope. This time around I think it may end up being a problem and my OBGYN wants to give it another couple of months and then send me to an RE if I don't see a BFP. Good luck to all of us!!!!!

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but - how do you know how long your LP cycle is??

Its the period of time between when you ovulate to when you get your period. You'd have to know when you ovulate though--either with OPKs or charting. HTH!!

Re: Short Luteal Phase
your LP is the number of Days past Ovulation. It is normally the same each month

Re: Short Luteal Phase
11-12 days isn't really that short. You should worry with 10 days or under....mine has been between 5-10, which is a big problem. I have started taking B6 supplements, which has helped a bit...it is usually around 10-11 now. You can also ask your doc about progesterone if it is necessary. I wouldn't worry too much about it right now....esp. with the OPK's...it may even be longer than you think.

I get the 2 lines for 2 days in a row, but I think you should ovulate within 24-36 hours of the first positive. I have also been taking b6, 200 mg for over two months and have seen the LP extend a day or so.

Thanks. So then when should I strat counting the DPO date ? 1 day after would be a "safe" prediction you think? Just so I know if my LP is not "too" short?

Re: Short Luteal Phase
I think its safe to say DPO 1 should be at least two days after you get your 1st + OPK...that's what I do.
