Shopping for a small/mid-size SUV (Acura,Volvo.Lexus)

If you drive any of the following cars/models listed below, can you tell me what features you love or hate about it?

Model Years 2012-2017
Acura RDX and MDX
Volvo XC60
Lexus RX350 / 200NT

I am in the market for a small to midsize luxury SUV. Prefer to buy Used or CPO (hoping for something w/ less than 25K miles). Leasing is not an option so I am aware I will have to pay $$ for the Tech/Advance packages on all models.

I already test drove the Infiniti QX50 (disappointed) and Audi Q5 (didn't like reviews about carbon buildup once car reaches 45K miles). Don't want another Honda because thats all I've driven for the past 15 years.

I really loved the Acura RDX but the cargo space isn't what I pictured and am concerned the split screen dashboard can be distracting (?). The MDX felt smoother but I am worried about the run flat tires (I hit a ton of potholes in Bklyn/Queens and usually get flats every few months).

Someone suggested Lincoln MKX - not sure of reliability. Reliability is important, so I am not going for used BMW/Mercedes/Audi models.

Which car would be best given all the above?

I read the reviews on Edmunds and 2 or 3 people who owned Audis commented that the Q5 has this particular carbon buildup issue that causes problems w/ air flow:

https://www.edmunds.com/audi/q5/2017/consumer-reviews/pg-1/?sorting=CONFIDENCE

EDITED to add: There was a thread that discussed at length - it comes up whenever any Q5 is between 45-85K miles, it will require the engine to be removed completely for the air valves to be cleaned out - easily several thousand dollars in repair costs:

https://forums.edmunds.com/discussions/tagged/audi/q5

Is it new or used? (year/mileage? )I was told Range Rovers/Land Rovers are a bad buy in terms of long term reliability. I would be fine w/ a 2015 model but I don't want to deal w/ engine issues once it gets past 70K-80K
miles.

It's a 2014. I bought it a yr old with 4k miles. It was a loaner car from a Manhattan dealership. It took me a long time to find it. I would look at dealerships in the city for sales and if u need a car serviced, stick to Long Island.

Good find!!! An Acura dealer out here told me he had a 2016 RDX on his lot w/ only 3,600 miles but it was in a burgundy color/beige interior. I hate red so I had to say no, but the price wasn't too bad ($26-27K). I will try the Manhattan dealerships too.

I drive a 2016 Acura MDX and I adore it. We bought cpo with about 5k miles, and after all the fees/etc it came to around 43k I believe. It's not the base model, but I believe one up.

It drives like a car, which I love-it didn't feel giant. I like the lane departure and brake assist. I like the Pandora I can play through the car. Seats are super comfy. Decent gas mileage.

The Lexus had a strange center console imo that went into the passenger seat. The Volvo didn't blow me away. The q7 was on our list, as was the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Highlander (but I pushed for the luxury).

I recently had to drive a Lincoln mkc bc I was rear ended, and I couldn't stand it. It was super tiny.

It was our second one. I had a 2012 RX. Turned it in after the lease ended and then dh liked it so much he leased a 2015.

It's a great car, he just wants something bigger next.

Do you have any issues w/n radio signals (via XM or Pandora) cutting out when you go through under passes or tunnels? I have that issue now w/ my Honda and it drives me nuts. I had the antenna and sensors checked and there are times my XM radio just cuts out for a half second anytime I go under a big tree or tunnel. I was told it was the just a car issue - I wonder if Acura has the same issue?

Edit: I know its satellite reception, but I had XM running one of my passenger's phones at the same time, and it came through just fine (not under a tunnel. but just a LIRR underpass where the signal shouldn't have too much trouble getting through).

I have a BMW X3 which I have been happy with. Not sure why you are ruling those out. From your replies it does not have a very large cargo area if that is an issue for you.

Yes its the cargo space, I did one of those side by side comparisons on Edmunds and BMW didn't have what the other models had for features I like/need. Also, I admit I am an little biased because most of the mechanics I've read reviews from have said German (Audi/MB/BMW) cars don't last as long as Japanese cars re: long term reliability. I don't want to deal w/ tempermental cars.

This is why my DH won't buy German either. (leasing he wouldn't mind because you aren't stuck with repairs ) The reliability is not the same as the Japanese cars and he is a hobby mechanic so he does a a lot of research.
He does have the Infiniti now though and loves it, I am surprised you were disappointed in the test drive.

Maybe I had a bum vehicle for the Infiniti test drive, but I felt like I was squished inside a space ship capsule the entire time I was driving the QX50. I didn't try the QX60 so maybe that is the model to check out, but I couldn't understand why the acceleration sucked on the QX50. I literally had to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor to get the car to a decent speed. The Acuras and Volvo didn't have that issue at all. The Infiniti did handle nicely otherwise, but the interior was just "too cocoon-like" for me.

He has the QX50 and it's definitely a bit tight especially the back seat.
The QX60 might be more what you are looking for, but of course it's more money.
He has no issues with acceleration or power, so that's odd. His is a 6 cylinder, not sure if they had you drive something with less power.
I know the sedans are moving to 4 cylinder turbos which annoys me

I have an Acura RDX 2014 certified preowned (dealer - manager car, not the loaner) got it with 14,000 miles for 33K including taxes, it was 32k without taxes with the technology package. I got it in the dark grey/black leather interior. I am very happy with it. I got it in 2015. I could have paid less for a different color.

I would stay away from the Volvo
I have had the XC90 (2x) and I know its a different model but so many problems and issues and it's all expensive stuff. Engine and transmission problems !!
I love the Lexus and the Acura
- I would def go with one of those

I have a 2017 MDX and I absolutely LOVE it! It drives beautifully. It has a comfortable, roomy interior. Cargo space is great. 3rd row is fine, unless you put a giant back there. DH has an RDX and we love it, too.

ETA: I test drove the QX60 and hated it.

I have an Acura TL and there are certain spots where the satellite radio will cut out for a second or two - always the same places. I do not think it's the car, but more just the way the satellite signal is being sent. I don't think you'll find any car where this doesn't happen
