Shellac manicures?

Is this a commitment? & does it do damage to your nails?

Meaning does it wear off, or have to be removed like a wrapping?

TIA!!!!

No commitment. Mine last 2 weeks. You just soak your nails and it gets scraped off. It didn't damage my nails. I removed mine myself this time because I felt like taking a break. I soaked them in nail polish remover and scraped it off. No damage. I really like it. Just needed a break.

It is not a commitment but if you pick it off it can damage your nails. Also I find if I do it several times in a row my nails start to dry out.

Shellac manicures?

not a committment, but it did damage my nails. my nails were weak as it is. plus skin cancer runs in my family so i stopped doing them. i got an amazing nail hardener, started taking Biotin and get regular manicures. my nails have never been better.

Can you share the name of the nail hardener? Twice I got the shellac, but my nails were so weak after soaking off the wraps. So, I let them grow out and then picked them off. Chat Icon

Nail Hardener

$20 but so worth it!! ive been using it for a month and doesn't even look like a dents been made in the bottle. take it with you for a manicure and have them put it on as a base and top coat and put it on in between manicures as much as you want. at first better to do it every day.

ETA...this also keeps the polish on longer!!

Re: Shellac manicures?

Oh forget that! My nails are actually pretty strong, but I keep them short/just past my fingertips. I just thought it would be a nice option to help them look polished longer.

This is the only reason I do Shellac is when I really need the polish to last (vacation, long business trips, etc.)

Re: Shellac manicures?

I actually decided to splurge and get the shellac for my DS first bday party & the darn manicure only lasted 4 days!! 4 days! The shellac began to peel off. What a waste.

I saw that too Chat Icon I just ordered it, figured I have nothing to lose. It's not much more than the nailtique/tek I've been using.

I've been doing well with maintaining my nails for the past month or so but a few have broken. I decided to go for a mani once a month to get them shaped and filed. As long as I keep polishing them in between manis, they seem to be staying strong except my self-manis never last more than 48 hours. I hope this new stuff keeps the polish on longer!

i find the only part of my nail where the polish came off is where the nail is still weak. all my strong nails still have polish. so the more i use it, the stronger my nails will be and the polish will last too.

Re: Shellac manicures?

I'd say no commitment.
I got it a few times. Really love it but it is pricey so I only do it for a vacation now or special occassion.
When it comes to taking it off you can do it at home so no need to go back to the salon if you want to remove it and not do it again next time.
I soak in a bowl of acetone for about 10 minutes and it scrapes right off with an orange stick. (make sure you get pure acetone though- not the acetone free nail polish remover)
I didn't notice any damage to my own nails.

Yes, I agree. That's why I don't want to go backwards with the shellac.
The only nail I typically have an issue with is my pointer (where I actually badly cut right below the nailbed, right above 1st joint bend. The nail has been weak since. So maybe this will help & keep the rest strong too!
