i'm glad the OP found a place with what she wants (booze related).

of all the baby showers i've been to, only ONE had booze.

i always thought that since the guest of honor can't drink...

huh, i didn't know i was hanging out with all the wrong people Chat Icon

I might have had a glass of champagne at my baby shower. Chat Icon
But I'm crazy like that.

You need to offer at least wine & beer. Nobody wants to be at showers to begin with, I can't even imagine how unbearable it would be without wine!

wowChat Icon

I seriously can't believe how many people do not want to go to a friends shower.

Seriously? You enjoy sitting in a room for 4 hours playing stupid games , maybe, and being forced to watch someone open gifts? I don't care how close you are too me, that 's never going to be not boring. After I just bought you a $100 gift, traveled to wherever shower may be, possibly got a new outfit if I didn't have something appropriate already, yeah, the least you can do is have some wine, or champagne punch for me. Besides the fact that the Mother to Be at every shower I have gone to has had some wine or champagne...it's only on LIF that nobody does that!

Of course people want to go to a friend's shower, but come on, showers are really only "fun" for the guest of honor and maybe their closest friends/family. For everyone else they're usually more of a chore. Offering a mimosa is a kind gesture.

This. There's nothing wrong with wanting a drink at a shower. It's a party for the host, but you want the guests to enjoy themselves too. A shower is usually 4 hours and most of them are sitting around watching gifts being opened. Why not sip a nice drink while watching your friend? Can't the guests have fun too? We're adults and of age to drink. Yes the host can't drink, but the party is for everyone to enjoy.
As for the PP... glad you found a place for drinks. I didn't have a baby shower, but any time hosting any party I would want the guests to enjoy with good food, drinks, nice place and company.

For my baby shower, we did a brunch at a place and offered only wine, bloody mary's and mimosas. Maybe you can do something like this, or maybe provide wine bottles on each of the tables?

this

you do not need an open bar for a baby shower

I went to one baby shower with no booze and I was definitely disappointed. At the very least I expect wine or punch.

I don't drink so I don't care about alcohol, but if I sit through a 4 hour party and there isn't chocolate cake at the end, I'm pissed. lol

I agree with this. Also, and maybe I’m going the diabetic route, but there are people who just simply aren’t into having kids or just can’t them or something went wrong. A little alcohol will not hurt anyone.

Showers for getting married and having kids are major events in one’s life. Some people don’t get that and struggle with it. Be kind and give some alcohol.

You're not alone in that thinking. I am pretty sure one of my friends declined my bridal shower invite to avoid all the people saying, "so, are you gonna be next?" If she had gone out of obligation, she probably cold have used a drink.

And I decline baby showers if I can, but when it's for the spouse of in-law & I have to go. . . .a mimosa would be much appreciated! Chat Icon

Definitely need some sort of alcohol. A champagne punch at minimum if on a tight budget.

Baby showers are incredibly boring. I go because I love my friends, but I don't enjoy them at all. I didn't have a shower because I cannot stand them. Sorry, I don't know anyone who actually enjoys them.

I have been saying forever that showers are the way women torture each other. Nobody wants to go, but we have to out of obligation to our friends and family. And we go because we want others to come to ours too.
And of course new brides and new moms need stuff.
So I propose we all just agree to register and buy each other stuff off the registry and have it sent and just end the madness.
I would gladly send a generous gift to any friend or family member getting married or having a baby. I would do it gleefully if it meant not sitting though a shower.
Can we start a movement on this ladies?

I personally think something alcoholic should be offered whether that be wine or champagne punch, I always host and do beer and wine at a minimum.

Agree with this.

Re: Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower

I actually love showers if you give me a mimosa or champagne punch. I'm always so disappointed if I get there and there are no drinks at all. For my cousins shower, we had mimosas, champagne punch and bloody marys. I was surprised that a lot of the guests went to the bar and got themselves something else. I guess at a certain point, you want what you want lol. I should have known that would happen. Our group of friends are big drinkers.

I think champagne punch is fine. If you want you can also do caraffes of wine at the tables.
