Septic Tank/System -- Prices
we just bought a house, and we know that the septic system is slowing down. 1 inspector said it's "failing" while another said you can't call it that, its just slowed down as its old. the sellers dropped the price of the house $10,000 and we were quoted $8,000-$20,000 to fix it.
Doesnt this sound like a large price range??? If im correct it's the leaching fields (sp?) that are faulty, and the tank itself is fine. Does anyone know how much a new septic system typically runs???

I have gotten several prices for a septic system for a six bedroom house . I learned systems are sized by usable rooms, even if they are not bedrooms.
I have a proposal for $8,500 for a new septic system with two 8' rings , but it includes removing my old tank and filling in the old system as per health departments specs, plus pumping the old one out. Hope that helps.
I think its high and am looking for more estimates.

ugh -- after what we were quoted I PRAY it's only 8,500!! We have a 4 bedroom house, 2 full baths.

It's an actual septic system with leach field or is it a cesspool system? Costs will vary depending on which.

My quote is for a cesspool, not leaching system. I think most people out east have cesspool systems.
