Would you mind clarifying?
Do you mean they enslave their empolyees at their China retail locations? 
Does Wal-Mart even own any factories in China?? (I'd ask my DH, but he's sleeping.) I assumed they outsourced-imported everything.

WalMart or Target? Depends on where I am.
On the Island, then Target. (We don't even have a WalMart nearby.)
The WalMarts in other parts of the country can be very nice.

I have always been more of a Target girl myself.
I used to shop Walmart occasionally for price reasons until DH sort of forbid me in the last few months. He despises what they do.

sure- bascially WM doesn't do facotry inspections- I have worked for Macy's and many other national retailers will not sell any products made in factoires that do not comply with the following:
bathroom for employees and bathroom breaks
NOT paying over time
forcing people to work overtime for no pay
safety equiment in the facotry
save working conditions
CHILD LABOR
the price of EVERYTHING has gone up since I have been working in the housewares industry- Stainless Steel and Plastic esp.
yet WM forces there supplies each year to lower the price of good or be dropped from the assortment- which can mean going out of business for some companies
Wal Mart also sources alot of good themselves in China - and I can only imagine what goes on in those factories

I am not sure if they do not own any factories, but I do know that they force their vendors to offer them goods at such low prices, that they basically force these factory workers to work non-stop at very low wages....
they don't technically enslave them, but most of the workers live in "dorms" at the factories.

it's not about cheap- it's about the working conditions for the workers
WM turns a blind eye to what goes on at those factories
Target
JC Penny
Macy's
are just a few that do not-
I have been thru the inspection process for all those retailers and they even count the number of lights! the factoires either have to make changes or the good don't ship
WM doesn't do that- the process is costly and time consuming- and shame on them!

I think I lied in the other post...I have been to a WalMart in Austin too. I needed Calamine lotion but DH decided to ride the kids bikes and were asked to leave before I was allowed to purchase the Calamine.
I really don't like either. I think the age of internet has made it easier to find everything online.
eta: Soooo I don't even know if this counts as going to WalMart. Plus my DH will never hear the end of this because I was attacked by fire ants and in severe pain.

Exactly.
My DH is a manufacturer-importer-wholesaler in the housewares industry with factories in China.
He sells to them all: Target, WalMart/Sams, Kmart, PotteryBarn, Neiman Marcus, Macys, Bloomingdales...you name 'em!

True, I am not positive but I believe WalMart and Sam's Club are owned by the same corporation.
