Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I had to have a scheduled C-section last time with my DD due to GD, they thought she was measuring large and encouraged me to have a C-section. This pregnancy my doctors gave me the option of a VBAC and although I have always been excited about the idea of delivering naturally the second time around I am also so, so nervous.
Have any of you had a successful VBAC? Can you share your experiences? Any complications or issues? I just keep hearing about the possibility of rupturing your C-section incision and the dangers of that and it makes me SO nervous. I know I have months to decide but I would like to hear how it went from someone who has actually been through it. Thanks !!

Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I'm in the same position right now and my doc said that the chance of any complication with the old scar rupturing are extremely low. She said barring any complication such as a very large baby or breech (this is why i had DS via c/s) there shouldn't be any issues to try for vbac.

Re: Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
When I went into the hospital for ds 2, my doctor and the nurses were really pushing me to do vbac. I was shocked bc I thought it was risky, i did not want to but the option was certainly there

Re: Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I'm trying for a VBAC this time. In the end, I know it's all up to the baby, but I really, really, really don't want another c-section.
Recovery time is supposed to be quicker, and there's all kinds of evidence that VBAC is better for both mom and baby. I'd ask your practitioner how many successful VBACs they attend, and keep in mind that some hospitals are more supportive than others. (I think the top three on LI are NUMC in East Meadow, Stony Brook, and NS Manhasset).

Re: Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
With DS1, I was induced at 38 weeks for medical reasons and never progressed past 4-5 cm. This time, I originally thought I'd try for a VBAC. Then I had a few complications and my doctors wanted me to deliver between 39 and 40 weeks. I had a c-section scheduled for 39w4d. I had weekly NSTs from 33 weeks on. The NSTs showed I was having contractions, but I was completely closed up each time the OB examined me. I assumed I wouldn't go into labor on my own.
At 38w5d, my water broke. I wasn't sure whether my water broke so I went to my OB's office. When she examined me, I was 2 cm. I wasn't dilated at all at my internal a few days before that. When I got to the hospital, I talked with my doctor and decided to see whehter I'd make any progress over the next few hours. My labor progressed very quickly and I went from 4 to 10 cm in an hour. However, when it came time to practice pushing, DS's heart rate decelerated. They put an internal monitor on his scalp to see how well he tolerated the pushing. His heart rate kept going down when I pushed. Since he was still very high up, the doctor felt a c-section would be best. I trusted his opinion. I was given medicine to stop the contractions and was prepped for surgery within the hour. The cord ended up being wrapped around DS's neck twice. I'm really glad I took my OB's advice and had a c-section. Although my attempt was not successful, I'm glad I got to experience labor and at least try to deliver vaginally. FWIW, my recovery was much easier the second time around.

Re: Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I am not pregnant, but when I have my second I am 100% going to go for a vbac. There are risks with c-sections as well, and for me, I feel I would rather try for a vbac then go straight for the c-section.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I had a vag delivery with dd and then an emergency c with my ds. When we have a 3rd I will fight tooth and nail for a vbac. The recovery was way easier with the vag delivery and I felt more productive and like I was more capable after delivery. DOes that make sense? Even if you end up with a c I would suggest trying for a vbac. In the end a healthy mom and baby is all that matters, but like I said the vag recovery for me was so easy and in 2wks I was 100%.

Makes complete sense. My C-section wiped me out. I was basically passed out and completely out of it the first 12 hrs after I had my DD. The first few days were absolute painful torture post surgery and I really didn't feel capable after having my DD.......I felt like h-e-l-l and I needed a lot of help. That's one of the reasons I am considering vbac. Plus, I just felt (and still feel 4 yrs later) that I missed out by having a C-section, I just reallllllly miss that I didn't have the full birthing experience. Ya know? I just want to do what's best, I am nervous to commit to either. Thank god I have time!!! lol

Re: Second Time Mommies - VBAC's
I had a vbac with #2. Best thing I ever did. Never once did it cross my mind that I should have gone for a repeat c/s. My labor and delivery was textbook. I went into labor on my own and pushed for 3 hours (!!), but out she came!
My first was a c/s because he was breech. I went on to vbac with #2 exactly 2 years after #1.
6 years after #2, I had #3. I was 100% going for v-birth again, however, I was much older, developed both GD and high blood pressure with #3, and when it came to 37 weeks and I started with pre-e (my blood pressure sky rocketed), I had to deliver. Since I couldn't be induced because of my prior c/s (8 years before!), I had a have a c/s with #3. Plain and simple, it sucked.
