school district zoning
Does anyone know if there is a way to change your school district? I live right on the border of 2 districts. My side of the block is one district and right across the street is a different school district. There are 2 houses on my side that are the other school district so there must be a way! I tried calling the schools and the women i spoke to said she does not think it was possible and was not very much help.

As far as I know, it's not possible to change your district just by asking. They out-of-district school will let you attend if you pay additional tuition to the district.
eta: I'm on LI though, not sure how this works in other places.

I agree--I know my house is a block away from another district, but cost over $100,000 more to get our district, so this generally isn't done on LI since your whole block would want the better district, and there would be no end to this.

The 2 school districts are actually pretty comparable i wouldn't say one is better than the other. I'm just looking to switch because my son has friends on the other side of the street and it would be nice for them to all be in school together and that school is much closer to me. The 2 houses on my side of the block had to of switched at some point because they are radomly in the middle of the block. my entire side of the block consists of about 10 houses 2 of which already belong to that district so i can't see that being a real issue.

Ask your neighbors on your side how they got to go to the other school district. You have nothing to lose by asking.
