Scarlet Fever

My DD has Scarlet Fever Chat Icon She had a slight Rash that is itchy Wednesday (no temp), I took her to the Dr Thursday, still no temp, but the rash spread a little. Today Friday, she's covered in the rash and has a temp. She doesn't have a sore throat though. She started antibiotics Thursday afternoon. How long is this going to last? The dr said she should be feeling better in a few days, but from the looks of her it's going to be a while! I feel so badly for her.

Re: Scarlet Fever

Scarlet Fever is caused by the same strep bacteria that causes strep throat.

I am not a doctor or a nurse but I would guess that the antibiotics would work on the infection the way they work on strep- which is pretty quickly. Chat Icon

Scarlet Fever

My sister had this years ago, once she starts on the antibiotics it shouldn't be long. She was feeling better within like a day or two of being on the antibiotics.

I believe the rash can last for a while afterwards, but she should be feeling better in 1-2 days of the antibiotics. If she is really itchy ask your ped if you can give her Benadryl or other allergy med to take the itch out.

DS had it last year. he felt fine within 2 doses of antibiotics.
the rash didn't FULLY disappear for almost 2 weeks, but he was fine and it did not bother him.

Scarlet Fever

That almost doesn't sound like scarlet fever? Did they do a throat culture, in addition to rapid strep test? Any other symptoms .
